Description
The Department of Radiology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine/Wexner Medical Center is seeking candidates for Vice Chair of Research that will provide strategic and vision-based leadership in research and innovation and develop a nationally and internationally recognized biomedical imaging research program at OSU. He/she/they will partner with the Department's and organization's leadership teams to develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for basic, translational, and clinical research in imaging, fostering research within the Department and meeting the imaging needs of Researchers in collaborative disciplines across the organization. Advancing a culture of innovation across the Department will be a critical part of this role, as well as the recruitment and retention of Researchers - both Ph.D. trained researchers, and physician-scientists - in areas of identified research priority. This Vice Chair will partner with the Vice Chair of Education to stimulate research activities across learners at OSU. This individual will closely partner with the Department Chair, as well as the Dean and Associate Deans of Research in the College of Medicine and at OSU, in all aspects of their work, to successfully execute their vision and strategy in the years to come.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Foster a culture that embraces disruptive innovation, cross-disciplinary research, and team science across the Department and organization.
  • Advance a vision for research in Radiology in the coming years, and develop a strategic plan that builds from this vision and stimulates faculty and learner engagement.
  • Build and support nationally and internationally recognized research programs through recruitment of new research faculty and support existing, outstanding programs in the Department.
  • Identify strategic areas for growth in any of six areas, or others: 1) MRI, 2) Nuclear Medicine/Molecular Imaging; 3) Artificial Intelligence; 4) Technology Assessment/Health Outcomes; 5) Translational Research; and 6) Clinical Research, with recruitment of new scientists/physician-scientists in areas of priority.
  • Leverage rich collaborative opportunities for Departments, Centers, and Colleges at OSU.
  • Facilitate further Department acquisition and maintenance of competitive national grant funding, especially from the NIH, NSF, and DOD, but also inclusive of foundation and professional society funding, as well as career development awards.
  • Facilitate the production of high-quality, peer-reviewed manuscripts in high-impact journals by Department faculty and learners, and scientific presentations at national and international meetings.
  • Extend imaging infrastructure for high-impact clinical and translational research endeavors across OSU environments, including the Wright Center of Innovation; OSU Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC health system); OSU researchers and research institutes external to our Department; and non-OSU (e.g., industry partners) entities.
  • Oversee research administration within the Department, with responsibility for overall management of the portfolio of Departmental research activities and clinical trial coordination.
  • Promote development of OSU Radiology seminars/workshops/symposia to stimulate interest in imaging-related research in the Department and collaborate with Departmental educational leaders to develop seminars/symposia that promote and showcase learner research.
  • Assist Department Chair, Department Administrator, and OSUWMC/COM leadership in the determination of current and future clinical imaging research space and resource allocations, as well as with imaging technology assessment leading to effective, comprehensive consideration of imaging equipment, investments, and implementation.
  • Serve as Department liaison with the OSUCOM and OSU research offices, the OSU Clinical Trials offices, and non-OSU R&D representatives (e.g., industry R&D).
  • Serve on Department, OSUCOM, or OSUWMC committees to represent the research interests of the Department.

Job Requirements
  • Associate or full Professor, with an M.D., D.O., or Ph.D. in imaging and/or imaging-related fields
  • Strong track record in extramural funding (particularly federal, including NIH, DOD, or NSF), peer-reviewed scientific publications, and scientific presentations
  • Experience in research partnerships with industry and/or foundations is considered helpful for this role
  • Strong track record in research mentorship of faculty and learners, including residents and fellows, as well as post-doctoral fellows and graduate students
  • Leadership experience in strategy, program building, personnel management, and finance
  • Experience as a PI, with oversight of an active, nationally recognized research program
  • Experience in team science approaches to research and innovation
  • Experience in supporting or conducting clinical trials and multicenter research is considered helpful for this role

Job Summary: The Physician provides licensed medical care including diagnosis, treatment (inclusive of surgery or pre/post-surgical care where appropriate), case management and clinical research. The Physician manages complex and sometimes unpredictable situations. The Physician must be competent in technical, clinical and surgical skills (where appropriate), cognitive and interpersonal skills required to serve those patients receiving the above mentioned services. The Physician is expected to practice within the established Medical Center and physician's standards of practice (policies, procedures, protocols), and adhere to key results areas of the Medical Center.
Required Qualifications: Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), board certified or board eligible in specialization required. State of Ohio and DEA licensure required.
