Education:
Associatein science or an associate in applied science degree in VeterinaryTechnology
Licensure/Certification:
Licensedas a Registered Veterinary Technician or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in thestate of Oklahoma, or willing to obtain said license if issued in a differentstate.
Training/Experience:
Must haveeducational qualifications to teach in subject area or have documentedspecialty
education/experienceto meet tested experience requirements, as per the Higher Learning
commission’spublication on Determining Qualified Faculty, and provide leadership in
academicdiscipline and/or degree program. Programs with discipline-specific external
accreditation mayhave more stringent training and experience requirements.
Applicants for the Veterinary TechnologyInstructor position must have 7 years experience as a registered veterinarytechnician or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with primary duties providingservices in a clinical (public or private) setting. Teaching/instructionexperience in a scientific field and at a post-secondary level is preferred.Candidates must have experience in husbandry, medical and surgical procedureswith domestic animals, food producing animals, and equines. Candidates must also possess a valid Oklahoma driver'slicense, be willing and able to drive a university owned vehicle to off-campus locationsand be willing to transport students or other university approved passengers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Teaching Competence – Must be able to create lesson plans, content, presentations, ancillary materials, and assignments to effectively transform information to knowledge for students; have the ability to assess student learning and progress.
- Communication skills – Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with clear, grammatically correct English and prepare complex reports on deadline; requires interaction with supervisors, colleagues, students, alumni, advisory committee members, and the public, using tact, discretion, and independent judgment.
- Computer skills – Must be demonstrably proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), as well as email, internet, and learning management systems.
- Ability to perform computations involving multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction using whole numbers, fractions and percentages.
- Ability to create and present lecture and lab material for presentation in 3-5 hour blocks of time.
Ability to log, file and post items manually and electronically. - Knowledge of current instrumentation and equipment used in the veterinary field.
- Knowledge of currently acceptable surgical, restraint, and laboratory techniques.
- Skilled in the handling and restraining of a variety of small and large animal species.
- Skilled in technical support for anesthesia and surgery in a variety of animal species.
- Ability to successfully perform commonly accepted veterinary procedures on common domestic species as they pertain to the Veterinary Technology curriculum and within the limits of one’s licensure.
- Ability to interact with supervisors, colleagues, students, alumni, advisory committee members and the public using tact, discretion, diplomacy, and independent judgment.
- Embrace the concept and practice of teamwork and understand and respect the roles of all individuals in a veterinary team.
- Be amenable to occasional changes in work schedule for the purposes of participation in public relations, outreach, student advisement, and other campus activities.
- Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU brand with positivity and professionalism.
- Demonstrated history of ethical and professional behavior.
Preferred Qualifications:
Abachelor’s degree in a related science field, or the willingness to complete.

Working Conditions:
Physical Requirements:
- Dutiesrequire extended periods of sitting, standing, talking, listening and computerusage.
- Position requires some physical ability - may be required to lift/move animals, instructionalmaterials, file boxes, classroom tables, chairs, etc. Must be able to lift up to 45 poundsunassisted, using proper lifting techniques.
- Individual must be able to stand/walk approximately 7-8 hours per day to perform commonly accepted veterinary procedures that pertainto the Veterinary Technology curriculum. Position requires frequent tocontinuous bending/stooping, squatting/crouching and pushing/pulling.
- Position may require working outdoors in inclementweather, under adverse working conditions, in the performance of proceduresthat pertain to the Veterinary Technology curriculum.
- Must be able to safelymanipulate and/or lift animals as necessary to perform tasks related toveterinary care and handling, with appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Must be able to operate manual cattle and horseenclosure and restraint equipment (corral gates, stocks, chutes, head gates,etc.) with appropriate cautions and personal protective equipment.
- Manual dexterity/visual ability to perform commonveterinary medical procedures including but not limited to administeringinjections, placing IV and urinary catheters, positioning patients for variousmedical and diagnostic procedures, operating microscopes, refractometers andother diagnostic equipment.
