JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION:
Laboratory Simulation Instructor/Specialist
RESPONSIBLE TO:
Director-Nursing and Adult Health Careers
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
  • Minimum listed in the Oklahoma Board of Nursing Rules and Regulations Relating to Nursing Education, Licensure, and Practice in the State of Oklahoma.
  • Have a minimum of an Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing in the State of Oklahoma. B.S.N. and/or Masters in Nursing may be preferred.
  • Effective January 1, 2017, has evidence of continued progress toward a baccalaureate or higher degree in nursing with completion of a minimum of six (6) semester hours per calendar year, PROVIDED: any person employed in the position of faculty of a Practical Nursing education program on December 31, 2016, is deemed to meet this requirement;

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:
  • Hold a valid unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oklahoma.
  • Nursing Licensure in the State of Arkansas may be required.

EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum as stated in the Oklahoma Board of Nursing Rules and Regulations.
  • Evidence of a minimum of two (2) years full-time equivalent practice as a Registered Nurse in a clinical setting, preceding the first date of first employment as a nursing faculty member, provided any person employed in the faculty position on September 1, 2016 is deemed to meet this requirement; and engage in teaching, scholarship, service, and/or practice in keeping with the mission, goals, and expected faculty outcomes.

SKILLS:
  • Adept and current in basic nursing skills, and able to effectively counsel and educate students with focus on clinical reasoning.
  • Ability to operate lab simulation equipment and other technology based resources and equipment.
  • Ability to write and further develop clinical simulation scenarios.

OTHER:
  • Knowledge of current school laws and/or state and federal regulations related to instruction in the classroom and clinical simulation
  • Knowledge of the Oklahoma Nurse Practice Act and Rules and Regulations of the Oklahoma Board of Nursing.

DEPENDABILITY:
  • Regular attendance following a designated work schedule.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and additional days/evenings as required by position responsibilities.
  • Must be able to attend and participate in meetings/conferences as scheduled within the district, state, and other states.
  • Meetings/conferences may require overnight trips.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL STANDARDS:
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and evaluate various documents, textbooks, reference materials, and models.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing using a variety of document formats. Ability to speak clearly.
  • Ability to deliver presentations and instructions in logical, sequential order.
  • Ability to freely move arms and fingers to manipulate instructional equipment.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and to move around the classroom/lab/clinical facility.
  • Requires stooping, bending, pulling, and lifting.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds from the floor to a four foot level.
  • Ability to operate a four-wheel vehicle in order to travel.

EMOTIONAL EFFORT:
Moderate to extreme. Must deal with multiple students working on a variety of projects/skills simultaneously, and with multiple students in different areas. Must carry out daily and long-term instructional preparations requiring concentration efforts and overtime work. Must deal with student discipline problems which may create high stress. Must periodically submit required reports within short time periods.
PERSONNEL CLASSIFICATION:
Adult Education Instructional Personnel - Non Certified (12 months); Exempt; Salary Range: Level 1-12 + $1,000, Associates Degree, Level 2-12, Bachelors Degree; Level 3-12, Masters Degree
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating simulated laboratory experiences for students in clinical simulation rotations. In addition, assist faculty in the planning, implementing, and evaluation of student simulation experiences for students. Assist the Adult Health Career department/campus in implementing technology related instructional resources.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
MAJOR DUTIES:
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a laboratory clinical simulation program, with emphasis on the PN curriculum, that facilitates high-level clinical reasoning to prepare students/graduates for success on licensure exam and employment in health care.
  • Work independently and with faculty to conduct student clinical rotations in a laboratory based clinical simulation setting.
  • Develop learning objectives and related activities/assignments for clinical lab simulations that align with curriculum, Oklahoma Board of Nursing policy, and other applicable agencies.
  • Maintain records/documentation of laboratory clinical laboratory simulation and student performance aligned with program curriculum and Oklahoma Board of Nursing policy and/or other applicable agencies
  • Train and support faculty in the implementing clinical laboratory simulation, related equipment, and other technology-based resources used by faculty.
  • Maintain Practical Nursing labs across the district to ensure continuity and equity of equipment and supplies.
  • Develop and oversee a purchase and maintenance plan for laboratory and simulation equipment.
  • Work with faculty to purchase needed consumable laboratory supplies.
  • Work with faculty to identify, request purchase, orient, implement existing and new simulation, audio/visual, technology based learning and related software/equipment into the curriculum
  • Work with faculty to develop interdisciplinary clinical simulations that involve all AHC programs.
  • Work with faculty and administration to plan and implement ongoing professional development in clinical simulation, clinical reasoning, and related instruction.
  • Provide clear and organized instruction that meets the learning needs of a variety of individual students.
  • Prepare and periodically review course outlines, lesson plans, and instructional materials required for effective instruction.
  • Evaluate results of instruction and student progress to make appropriate modifications.
  • Provide instruction on any ICTC campuses, as directed by the Director-Nursing and Adult Health Careers or Assistant Director-Nursing and Adult Health Careers.
  • Create and maintain a positive classroom/lab which minimizes student discipline problems.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, progress, and performance records on each student.
  • Work with faculty to update curriculum and instructional programs to keep current with the profession.
  • Organize and manage the classroom/lab to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness in teaching/learning.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, secure, and safe classroom/lab and office.
  • Update technical skill levels as necessary in order to update the curriculum and deliver current training to students.
  • Acquire new occupational skills needed to keep pace with technological advancements.
  • Evaluate teaching resource materials and make recommendations for change.
  • Collect, analyze, and communicate data related to instruction and student outcomes.
  • Assist with special projects/initiatives within the PN and AHC department
  • Support the preparation and administration of simulation lab and campus lab program budgets.
  • Work with faculty and administration to establish short and long range purchase plans for PN and simulation labs
  • Establish and maintain efficient procedures and effective controls for expenditure of district funds following the adopted budget and school law code.
  • Participate in a minimum of two Advisory Committee meetings per year.
  • Uphold the policies and procedures of the Indian Capital Board of Education.
  • Attend all faculty/staff meetings and other district meetings and functions as required.
  • Prepare and submit reports and other documents as required by the Director and/or Assistant Director for Nursing and Adult Health Careers, Indian Capital Technology Center Superintendent, ICTC Board of Education, Oklahoma Department of Career and Technical Education, Oklahoma Board of Nursing, and applicable agencies.
  • Participate in an annual evaluation of their own performance with the Director for Nursing and Adult Health Careers.
  • Arrive to work on time and follow an approved schedule for the workday.
  • Perform tasks, assumes duties, and exercise authority required to accomplish the job function as directed by the Director for Nursing and Adult Health Careers and/or Assistant Director for Nursing and Adult Health Careers and/or Superintendent
  • Other jobs/tasks as described and requested by the administrator.
RELATIONSHIPS
INTERNAL:
Maintain a line of communication and work cooperatively with instructors, administration, and staff.
EXTERNAL:
  • Develop and maintain contacts with community businesses/industries for the purpose of advisory recommendations for the program and student placement.Establish and maintain a close working relationship with the administration and staff of clinical facilities.
  • Establish and maintain a close working relationship with the staff at the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technical Education and the Oklahoma Board of Nursing and other applicable agencies.
