White Stone Veterinary Clinic is currently seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician or Experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our brand new, locally owned clinic in downtown Plainfield!
NO WEEKEND HOURS! Enjoy having weekends off? We do too! Our office is open Monday-Friday with no Saturday or Sunday hours. Full-time employees work four ten hour days.
Skills and Basic Qualifications
- Must enjoy working with animals
- Must be confident around pets
- Must be able to regularly lift up to 40 pounds (requires lifting, carrying, and restraining animals as well as lifting and handling supplies)
- Has excellent client communication skills
- Shows respect for clients, coworkers, and animals at all times
- Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time
- Must be able to work in an environment with exposure to disinfectant/sanitation chemicals, animal dander, and animal excretions
- Must be able to recognize characteristics of animal behavior including the ability to identify aggressive or fearful behavior
- Ability and willingness to learn new information
Essential Job Functions (Varies Slightly for RVT vs. Veterinary Assistant)
- Supports veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care is provided to all patients
- Prepares and maintains exam rooms and treatment areas
- Understands and utilizes the Clinic’s electronic medical records system, enters/orders diagnostic tests within EMR, enters vaccine information, creates and verifies treatment estimates, and thoroughly documents consultation notes
- Obtains all relevant medical history and information from clients, documenting complete patient history in patient medical record
- Maintains lab results and ensures that test results and treatment plans are communicated with clients
- Reviews medical records, estimates, and discharge instructions with clients
- Provides care for animals by taking vital signs and administering medications as directed
- Assists veterinarians in medical, surgical, and dental procedures, including preparation of supplies and instruments, retraining animals, operating/monitoring anesthetic machines, placing IV catheters, administering fluids, preparing medications, etc.
- Provides daily care for patients including feeding, watering, walking admitted dogs, cleaning cages, and monitoring during recovery
- Performs clinical laboratory procedures such as blood draws, fecal flotations, heartworm tests, skin scrapings, urinalysis, etc.
- Ability to give SQ, IM, and IV injections
- Assists in obtaining radiographs of animals
- Fills prescriptions, accurately measures medications, and properly labels containers
- Assists with quality-of-life evaluations and humane euthanasia procedures
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 1 year experience as a Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant
