The Cat Clinic of Lawrence is looking for a Veterinary Assistant to our team!
We're an AAHA Accredited and AAFP Cat Friendly Practice that provides feline-exclusive veterinary care. Our mission is to make life better for cats and their people by providing expert, effective feline health care with minimal stress and maximum compassion, as well as high-level customer service. We're here to keep cats healthy and happy, and we use only low-stress handling and work with cat owners to make that happen.
What you’ll be working on
- Reporting to the Practice Manager, you'll run exam room appointments, obtain patient medical history, chart notes in electronic medical record system, enter billing charges, fill prescription medications, educate clients, review treatment plan estimates and finance options, clean and sanitize hospital, laundry, patient care (food/water, condo cleaning, TLC, give medication), and assist DVM/Vet Tech/Manager with other duties as assigned.
- Advanced patient care duties may be performed by those with considerable veterinary experience after the initial onboarding period, or those who have trained on the job with the Cat Clinic.
Schedule
- Open to those wanting full-time (32-40 hours) or part-time (20-29 hours) position.
- The schedule will include various shifts (morning, afternoon, full day, mixed) around business hours Mon-Fri 8am-5:30pm & Sat 8am-12pm.
- Some Saturday availability is needed, and may occasionally need to stay after hours if an emergency patient presents.
Qualifications
- Veterinary Assistant or professional cat handling experience preferred. Open to training those without experience who are willing to learn and are cat-obsessed. Veterinary Technician and Pre-Vet students are encouraged to apply.
- Must love cats and be open to learning low-stress handling techniques!
- Must be comfortable working in a medical setting that involves handling bodily fluids, animal smells, end-of-life situations, and stressful or emergency patient needs.
- Must be comfortable communicating and working with all types of clientele.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required. The position will involve learning electronic medical record software, veterinary terminology, medications, common diseases and illnesses, client education, and medical math.
- Must be at least 18 years old and high school diploma/equivalent is required.
