POSITION SUMMARY:
To be fully engaged in provide Quality/No Harm, Customer Experiences and Stewardship by assisting licensed personnel in providing IV access and care to adults and children under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Engagement:
• Associate supports engagement through adherence to the I-Care commitments.
Quality/No Harm:
• Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals (ie: use of 2 patient identifiers) when accessing patient information in patient care.
• Performs phlebotomy and ensures accurate labeling of specimens.
• Sets up and assists for patient care procedures.
• May be assigned to other duties as directed.
Customer Experience:
• Performs Nursing Assistant duties as follows:
• Collects, records and reports accurate patient information.
• Responds to call light in a timely manner.
• Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner.
• Provides care to patients in a clean and safe environment.
• Competently performs routine IV procedures.
• Assists other associates to maintain productivity.
• Provides service to patients and families with sensitivity and respect for their needs, expectations, age, cultural and individual differences.
• Demonstrates effective communication with other members of the health care team and promotes effective team functioning.
• Demonstrates dependability, reliability, and flexibility.
• May have access to IV solutions and supplies as needed for patient care responsibilities.
• Obtains IV access with and without the use of Ultrasound.
• Contributes to the patient experience as evidenced by positive patient satisfaction scores and HCAHPs scores for department/medical center and/or written compliments by patients/others as well as consistent performance of purposeful hourly rounding and bedside shift report.
Stewardship:
• Utilizes Health First computer systems with regard to order entry, order inquiry, and patient documentation.
• Provides assistance to RN as needed.
• Maintains appropriate level of supplies in the treatment area.
• Provides safe and timely transport of monitored patients as needed.
• Demonstrates effective telephone etiquette.
• Uses and cares for equipment and supplies economically.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must hold current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain.
• Current EMT-P (Paramedic) certificate.
• Must meet unit-specific care requirements.
• Must be able to speak/understand written and verbal instructions in the English language.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Must have visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform clinical tasks.
• Must have corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Must be able to lift, turn, pull, push or ambulate patients/equipment up to 90% of the assigned shift.
• Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted up to 33% of the assigned shift.
• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and stoop up to 90% of assigned shift.
• Must be able to sit, up to 90% of the assigned shift.
• Potential for exposure to biohazardous waste, and known or unknown diseases.
MENTAL DEMANDS:
• Must have ability to work in often stressful environment with patients/families at various ages and levels of understanding.
• Must have ability to concentrate on multiple priority activities
• Must have ability to respond appropriately to life threatening situations
• Must have continuous concentration watching computer/monitor screens with only dinner and break times as per hospital policy.
