The Vascular Access Nurse provides consultation for providers and nurses for the most apprioprate VASCULAR ACCESS device based on patient assessment and treatment plan. Places VASCULAR ACCESS devices such as: peripheral intravenous catheters (PIV), Peripheral Inserted Central Catheters (PICC), Midline cathers. Assess and manages central venous access devices including routine dressing changes, cap changes and intervenes to maintain patency of central venous access devices. Services as a resource for the health care team in the intravenous access, placement, management, and patien/family education for care and maintenance technique, ultrasound machines and ability to confirm line placement via chest x-ray successful placement of PICC/ Placement verification device. Provides safe, competent nursing care for patients in accordance with facility policies, standards, and philosophy. Provides professional leadership and support to the healthcare team. The concepts of Patient Centered Care will provide the foundation for all nursing care. Demonstrates Service Excellence standards at all times. Other duties as assigned.

Graduate of an accredited or NLN-approved RN program.
Works with staff nurses, physicians, case managers and other team members to insure early assessment for VAD selection and implementation.
BLS and ACLS required
Reviews physicians order, Obtains consent, reviews medical records for any contraindication of peripheral VASCULAR ACCESS. Determines the best VASCULAR ACCESS device for the patient based on medications, current access status, diagnoses, lenth of IV Therapy etc.
Current state nursing license.
Places said VASCULAR ACCESS device, (PICC, Midline, Peripheral) or recommends alternate means of access. Reports directly to patients primary nurse and charge nurse or physician, if necessary. Troubleshoots difficult complications of VAD's or assist staff as a resource in declotting.
Assesses patients with difficult access or need for long term IV therapy for appropriate VASCULAR ACCESS device
Placeses difficult peripheral IV's with or without ultrasound as needed. Provides staff education on Care and managmeent, complication management and document completely and accurtely in the patients permantent medical record.
