Job Description
The Registered Nurse provides care and education for the patient based on their illness, symptoms, and courses of treatment. This position manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. This position is involved in the safe insertion of Vascular Access devices and serves as the resource for infusion related activities in the acute care setting. The primary functions of the role consists of activities related to the safe insertion, delivery, site care, and maintenance of Vascular Access therapies including fluids, medications, blood/blood components, and parenteral nutrition.
Responsibilities
- Performs all responsibilities/duties related to the oversight of Vascular Access activities.
- Actively involved in the assessment/evaluation of Vascular Access needs and requests
- Clinically proficient with safe, effective Vascular Access and initiation.
- Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
- Clinically proficient with safe, effective post insertion maintenance
- Serves as professional resource for BHC acute care entities
- Manages administrative aspects of Vascular Access Team to ensure high level functioning of overall program
- Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs to provide quality care to assigned patients.
- Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
- Technical Diploma/Certificate Nursing or Associates Degree Nursing Required. Bachelor's Degree Nursing Preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
- 3 years Recent clinical experience in an acute care hospital environment Required.
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse Licensed State of Florida or eligible compact state Upon Hire Required.
- BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required.
- Vascular Access Board Certified (VA-BC) within 2 Years Required.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills.
- Basic Computer Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in skill, knowledge, and ability related to Vascular Access and infusion therapy (the safe insertion, delivery, site care, and maintenance of Vascular Access therapies including fluids, medications, blood/blood components, and parenteral nutrition).
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
- Knowledge of chemotherapy / biotherapy.
