Form of workVariety seeks a journalist who is well-sourced and has a deep knowledge of the entertainment industry to serve as Senior Correspondent for the venerable brand. This position can be based in Los Angeles or NYC.
The high-volume job will involve writing for all Variety platforms with an emphasis on breaking TV news, legal cases and enterprising investigative stories, as well as profiles and interviews with high-profile talent, directors and executives.
The ideal candidate is a senior journalist with a range of published stories in print and digital publications, and with five to seven years of reporting experience. Job applicants must be able to write quickly and on deadline.
Duties include:
- Writing news stories that are deeply reported.
- Breaking news about the TV industry.
- Keeping up with multiple short-term and long-term assignments for the web and magazine.
- Writing occasional in-depth cover stories.
- Building posts in WordPress, writing headlines and generating buzzy coverage.
- Public speaking and media appearances on Variety's behalf.
Requirements:
- 5+ years’ experience as a reporter/editor covering entertainment.
Typical wage range: $100k - $110k. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits.
