Job description

  • Knowledge of and proficiency in a variety of design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, and InDesign
  • Have an online portfolio or samples of work on resume, demonstrating experience creating great end-to-end, user-centered design solutions and patterns, across desktop and mobile devices
The Amazon Devices Customer Insights & UX design team seeks a thoughtful, creative, and passionate UX Designer to be a part of our team as we define how Amazon Devices customers discover, learn about, purchase, and get the most value out of their devices. We are a global organization building platforms and programs to support the sale of and engagement with Amazon Devices including Fire Tablets, Kindle E-readers, Amazon Echo products, Streaming Media Products, Home Security and Smart Home products, and more. Join our team to help us define, design, and build next-generation shopping experiences for our customers. You'll be part of a multi-disciplinary team of designers, researchers, and technologists that can envision, create, and execute ideas from start to end.
As UX Designer, you will own the Online Shopping Experience for Amazon Devices, defining and designing interfaces across platforms (desktop, tablet, mobile) for the Amazon Device shopping experience on Amazon.com that scale. You will tackle our most difficult customer problems as they evaluate and consider Amazon Devices and work with ambiguity, designing best-in-class consumer experiences (user interface designs, interaction models, prototypes, etc.) in a fast-paced, startup-like environment. You will work closely with product management, engineering, marketing, research, and company leaders to successfully go from early-stage concepts to launch, and support new Amazon Device launches as cutting-edge technology is released to the public. You will act as a “bar raiser” for the work deployed from the User Experience team to external and internal customers and create mechanisms, frameworks, and design systems to maintain a high bar across the User Experience team. You will be an Amazon Devices “ambassador,” driving cross-organizational collaboration and sharing, and evangelize the UX work our team is doing to drive best practices throughout the company.
You must be responsive, flexible, and able to deal with ambiguity, stakeholder complexity, and the fluidity of emerging technologies within an open and collaborative peer environment. You will visualize experiences in the abstract and then drive that vision into solid design deliverables that achieve the customer goals and business requirements.
Key job responsibilities
  • Collaborate and work cross-functionally with design, research, product, and engineering teams from design concept to design solution, setting UX guidelines, creating assets, and aiding in bug fixes to ensure bar-raising quality all the way to market.
  • Create the vision for developing, communicating, and implementing the user experience and follow through with the processes and tactics to fulfill the vision.
  • Oversee close coordination with product managers to develop a shared vision and lead the process to define the experience and design to deliver on the product’s objectives.
  • Use data (metric tests, usability studies, usage data) to identify opportunities and inform decisions.
  • Create pattern libraries, templates, and tools for a variety of users on our platform.
  • Identify and utilize common patterns for mobile, desktop, and e-commerce platforms.
  • Consider how emerging technologies can unlock new customer experiences and scale business operations.
  • Consider the internal tooling required to support front-end customer experiences.
  • Inspire, mentor, and lead a variety of designers on the User Experience team.
  • Work strategically with executives and team members across the organization.
  • Develop and nurture relationships across the team, Amazon, and disciplines to promote collaboration and efficiency on Amazon projects.
