Our Opportunity
(SPSCC) seeks a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Utility Worker 2.
Under general supervision, the Utility Worker 2 is responsible for performing general, semi-skilled, manual work in the maintenance, repair and renovation of facilities, roof and drain systems, tools, equipment and grounds.

What You'll Do
Maintenance, cleaning and repair of campus facilities
  • Pressure washes structures, sidewalks, roadways etc.
  • Grounds maintenance including: weeding, pruning, planting, trimming and related landscaping tasks
  • Cleans roofs, cleans and maintains gutters
  • Repairs/maintains and cleans parking lots and sidewalks; sumps, and utility vaults
  • Participates in training on specialty equipment use such as boom and fork lifts
  • Operates, fuels and maintains pressure washer, cordons off work area if required
  • Uses ladders and man lifts to work at heights on roofs and gutters

Perform semi-skilled maintenance and construction work on buildings, fixtures, equipment, grounds, walks, and driveways
  • Loads and unloads trucks and moves furniture, equipment, supplies and materials; assembles new furniture
  • Drives light equipment occasionally in transporting supplies
  • Makes rough or minor repairs to building fixtures, equipment, and furniture
  • Cleans, services, adjusts, and make repairs on tools and equipment
  • Operates power tools and equipment, such as electric and gas engine driven equipment, pressure washers, large mowers, pneumatic tamper, jackhammer, snow plows and portable pumps, blowers
  • Assists in preparation for repairs, facilities alterations, and maintenance projects; cleans up when project is completed
  • May perform equipment maintenance
  • Works with hand tools to dig ditches, trenches, and other excavations and remove debris

Related duties as assigned
  • Assist with interior and exterior painting, minor repairs. May use spray gun, brush or roller.
  • Member of the Inclement Weather Essential Personnel; provide support to other Facilities projects as needed

Qualifications You Possess
Minimum Qualifications
  • Physical strength to do required work AND two years of experience as a Utility Worker 1 OR equivalent education/experience.
  • Ability to: read and write; understand and carry out instructions; perform heavy manual labor and work outside in all types of weather.
  • A valid Washington state driver's license is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic computer skills; ability to use Outlook and Megamations (Maintenance management software) to communicate and view work orders.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to complete assignments without immediate supervision
  • Ability to perform all essential functions in a safe manner
  • Physical ability to work on a ladder
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices and use of provided PPE
  • Knowledge of proper lifting techniques
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students, faculty, administrators and support staff in accomplishing tasks

Your paycheck is just part of your total compensation package, with an employee benefits package worth about 30% of your salary.
VACATION AND SICK LEAVE
Annual leave includes vacation, 11 paid holidays, and 12 days of sick leave. Additional leave may fluctuate as a result of the WFSE union bargaining agreement
