Job Description
The Utilities Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for developing and implementing Process Safety Management (PSM)/Risk Management Program (RMP) for ammonia, as well as developing and implementing regulatory programs and best practices for our boiler. The Utilities Maintenance Supervisor will provide direction to the PSM/RMP and boiler teams and assist the plant in developing, implementing, and sustaining plant specific policies, procedures, programs, and training to achieve and maintain compliance with health, safety and environmental laws and regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
- Implement corporate programs and systems that drive consistency while ensuring that procedures and practices are aligned with state and federal laws and regulations.
- Maintain a working knowledge of PSM (14 elements), RMP, and any applicable state and federal rules and regulations for ammonia and boiler dedicated plants.
- Conduct audits and inspections of plant performance and activities involving the PSM/RMP operations and programs and boiler safety management programs.
- Coordinate, and participate in PSM and RMP program activities at a local level.
- Monitor and assist in training on operating procedures including the annual review/certification and initial/refresher training. Assist in creating and updating operating procedures when needed as well as maintaining the operating procedure training matrix. When and where necessary, conduct training for the facility team.
- Follow all safety programs for the utilities operation and/or maintenance of all associated equipment in area of responsibility, and when necessary, train and correct unsafe behaviors associated with these responsibilities.
- Promote a safety culture and drive improvements in the PSM/RMP and boiler programs.
- Provide support and take a leadership role in OSHA and EPA audits of the PSM/RMP and boiler programs, and other regulatory audits of the refrigeration and boiler systems.
- Coordinate data retrieval, compilation, and reporting for company’s process safety key performance indicator metrics.
- Provide direction to Corporate HSE Sr. Manager, engineering, and maintenance contractors for refrigeration and related cooling and boiler projects and modifications.
- Define and prioritize site programs to meet the needs of regulatory compliance, risk analysis recommendations, corporate policies, site specific procedures and audit findings. Assist plant staff in prioritization of action items to address gaps.
WORK EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE:
- Third Grade Boilers License preferred
- (2) years industrial ammonia refrigeration experience preferred
- Must be able to read and understand electrical diagrams, blueprints, drawings, P&ID’s, and technical service manuals
- HVAC experience preferred.
- Must be able to work in extreme conditions for long periods of time. This is to include heat, cold, rain, snow, limited movement areas, heights, etc.
- Prior experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical systems and PLC control systems.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs with a grasp of financial factors in maintenance.
- Prior experience in food and beverage manufacturing environment with familiarity with GMP and food safety.
- Must be able to work overtime, irregular hours, and/or rotating shifts scheduled by the Department Manager.
