The Utilities Laboratory Technician utilizes knowledge of all current testing procedures and sampling protocol used in the specified area of environmental laboratory operations to include testing procedures used in water and wastewater analysis. The successful candidate must be able to work from detailed instructions including maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory equipment. This position works under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Manager.

Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma. Working knowledge of computers and strong communication skills.

Experience: One year experience related to the functions in the job description.

License & Certification: Must have a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record in accordance with City policy. Must acquire and maintain Maryland Sampler Certification within 6 months of hire date.

Essential Functions: Examples of duties may include but are not limited to: Responsible for assisting Laboratory Manager in the overall efficient operations of the City’s Utilities laboratories. Responsible for inorganic and microbiological analyses using all appropriate equipment and approved laboratory procedures for water and wastewater analysis. Assists with technical support necessary for the efficient operation of the laboratory, including general housekeeping. Collects and prepares samples for analysis, calibrates all necessary testing equipment, and performs required analysis in accordance with approved Laboratory Procedures. Maintains complete records of activities and uploads data to electronic database, prepares required reports as directed by the Laboratory Manager. Will perform related duties as assigned.
