Responsibilities
We are Hiring! Our CDC Program is looking for an experienced Human Factors Specialist/Researcher. The qualified applicant will participate in the analysis and design process to infuse user interface design principles into web sites and applications. This position requires an experienced Human Factors Specialist with particular focus on User Experience Research. The qualified application will design and conduct remote or in-person usability tests with interactive prototypes, identify issues, and make recommendations for improvement.
What you will do:
- Consults with stakeholders and makes recommendations regarding the benefits and value of User Experience Research (UXR).
- Plans UXR strategy for projects based on customer needs, budget, and priorities and integrates tasks into the overall research team workplans.
- Conducts user research through interviews, surveys, moderated testing sessions, tree tests, card sorts, and other methods as appropriate.
- Creates and maintains project plans for testing efforts.
- Designs user tests with objectives, approach, scenarios, process, etc. as needed.
- Leads or coordinates recruitment efforts; manages participant pools/lists.
- Facilitates moderated user testing sessions.
- Analyzes qualitative and/or quantitative data from user testing sessions.
- Develops test reports/presentations, with both detailed analysis and summary level content.
- Participates in creation and maintenance of Testing Methods Repository.
- Conducts secondary research (as needed).
- Creates low/mid-fi mockups (as needed).
- Participates in defining User Experience (UX) standards and templates for Web and mobile applications.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 3 years with PhD
- 6 years of relevant experience in user research and testing for web sites and applications.
- Proven ability to synthesi ze data findings into actionable recommendations.
- Experience working with multiple testing methods.
- Experience working with both quantitative and qualitative user data.
- Ability to create low/mid fi mockups to explain recommendations.
- Demonstrated experience in communicating effectively with all levels of contract and customer organizations and with translating academic and technical terminology into common terms.
- Demonstrated experience with meeting deadlines with both timeliness and quality and with balancing and prioritizing work across multiple projects.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be a US Citizen or a Green Card Holder.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the required Agency clearance.
- Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, or closely related discipline.
- Understanding of the CDC public health mission.
- Knowledge of CDC design standards and Agency Web templates.
- Understanding of and experience with implementing Section 508 accessibility requirements.
- Experience working in a government contracting environment.
- Experience with general creative strategy and multiple visual/digital communication channels.

Target Salary Range
$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
