Under the administrative direction of the Practice Manager and clinical direction of the Nursing leadership, the Urgent Care Technician is responsible for the following responsibilities:
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Assist in fundamental clinical care including Point of Care testing (POC), intake of vital signs, phlebotomy, and EKG.
- Assist in coordinating patient triage and overall workflow.
- Maintain medical record, lab results, imaging reports in an accurate manner in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Manage the referral process.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Maintain inventory of supplies, forms, and informs Unit Nurse of any inconsistencies.
- Maintain all required Nursing logs in assigned service area.
- Monitor refrigerator temperature daily and log appropriately.
- Attend appropriate in-service and/or outside training to maintain and/or upgrade skills (including cross-training for medical records, reception, and phone operator functions.)
- Assist in printing and explaining patients discharge/release instructions.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Welcome guests, create a warm and friendly atmosphere and deliver outstanding customer service.
- Perform patient registration, makes appointments, verifying patient's demographic including phone numbers, patient insurance eligibility, confirm and update insurance eligibility at every patient visit with Athena EMR software application.
- Assess and accurately enroll patients for sliding fee scale discount program.
- Select Preferred Pharmacy and Laboratory Services for patients in EMR.
- Log all monies received to patient's accounts; Generate receipts for clients.
- Answer incoming calls.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Skills preferred:
- Previous use of an EMR
- Medical Terminology
- EMT or Medical, Nursing or Physician Assistant, prospective Students preferred but not required.
Education and Experience:
- High School or Equivalency Diploma
Required licenses/certifications through one of the following:
- Medical Assistant Certifications (CCMA, CMA, NCMA, RMA)
- Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) Certification
- Certified Medical Scribe specialist (CMSS)
- Healthcare Professional Licensure including but not limited to EMT, ARRT, RN, LPN, etc...
Work Experience:
- Medical Assistant experience required.
- Registration experience preferred.
- Experience in an Urgent Care environment preferred.
- Medical scribe experience preferred.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and abilities:
- Phlebotomy
