The Third Floor is looking for an Unreal Technical Artist for a large-scale entertainment project using the Unreal Game Engine. The ideal candidate will come with extensive Unreal experience. They will work within our Immersive team to support development utilizing game engine technology within the Film, Gaming, Theme-Park and VR industries.
Project Based. Full Time. Remote Position. Must be in the state of California, Georgia, Texas, Oregon, Connecticut, Florida, New Jersey, New York (Outside NYC), Colorado, Washington, or Canada for remote positions.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to building amazing VR/AR experiences Unreal
- Lighting and Shading VR scenes and assets in Unreal
- Using Unreal's particle system to design and create FX
- Create and debug shader and materials graphs throughout production
- Support the development team with level implementation in Unreal
- Provide the art team with guidelines for art content creation for Unreal
- Work with the art team to make levels efficient and meet run-time performance requirements
- Help to improve technical pipelines and FX creation techniques/tools
- Document, prototype, and improve the art pipeline (desirable)
Essential Skills:
- Must have Inside out knowledge of Unreal for 3D
- Proficiency working with Maya asset workflows between Maya and Unreal
- Must have experience with Lighting and Shading in Unreal
- Experience creating functional levels in Unreal
- Understanding of the PBR workflow and working with Textures for look development
- Needs to have experience with Source Control (Perforce ideally)
- Familiarity with Substance Designer would be a plus
- Expert in Blueprints, materials, level streaming - able to rapidly prototype features using Blueprints/shaders
- Analyze content using profiling tools and work with developer to reduce scene complexity
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Coding in Python, particularly for Maya to help with tools to improve workflow
- Experience producing pipeline tools for Maya
- Experience with VR, AR and mobile development is a big plus
- Experience with performance profiling in Unreal
- Experience writing tools and UI panels for Unreal
- Proven games industry experience, with a Technical Artist credit on at least one published title
- Experience with the Substance suite and Substance Automation Tools
- Shader coding in HLSL / GLSL
