Position Type:    Seasonal

Description

SUMMARY:
The Teacher Programs staff at American Councils is responsible for implementing the Teachers of Critical Languages Program, an international exchange program that recruits and places English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers from China, Egypt, Morocco, and Taiwan within U.S. K-12 schools where they teach their native language and culture for one academic year. Implementation includes but is not limited to recruitment, selection, placement, program training and support, and alumni relations.

During the summer, the main program activities include Pre-Departure Orientation in June and Orientation in August.

The Teachers of Critical Languages Program Summer Internship is an unpaid internship that presents students with an opportunity to work with a diverse group of teachers from China, Egypt, Morocco, and Taiwan and learn about implementing an exchange program. The departmental intern will work closely with the Program Officer and other team members to help with tasks associated with an international exchange program, which will provide the intern with valuable insight into the field of international education and the workings of a nonprofit organization. If interns are interested in receiving academic credit or must fulfill an intern requirement, we are happy to work with the intern and their university to satisfy necessary requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Through this internship, the intern will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in communicating with international teachers and large-scale international education event planning, as well as insight into the workings of a nonprofit organization. Specific tasks and responsibilities will vary according to the intern’s interests and skills, but may include developing program materials, assisting with maintenance of the program’s social media presence, coordinating logistics including travel for program events, communicating with teachers in the U.S. and abroad, and compiling data and materials for grant proposals and reports. Interns should also expect to assist staff with routine administrative work.

ANTICIPATED INTERNSHIP DATES:
The Summer Internship would begin mid-May to early June and go through mid-August. Start and end dates are flexible. The position is approximately 35 hours per week with additional hours requested during the workshop August 5-13, 2024. Please address availability in terms of days of the week and hours in your cover letter.

The Teacher Programs staff is currently following a hybrid in-person and remote schedule. This is subject to change.
