- Under general supervision, performs general clerical duties in an assigned nursing unit; performs related work as required. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient-centered care.
- Unit-Specific Position Responsibilities
- Prior Authorization:
- Completes pre-registration processes.
- Works with Patient Access to complete patient registration for all patients admitted through the Pain Medicine Clinic.
- Verifies patient insurance benefits, eligibility, and coverage.
- Contacts third-party payors for authorization companies.
- Obtains pre-authorization for procedures from insurance companies.
- Monitors and reviews the status of required authorizations.
- Administrative Support:
- Sets priorities and demonstrates organizational skills, responsiveness, and flexibility to adapt to changes in the work environment.
- Prepare patient charts for the nursing and medical staff and maintains the charts to assure that necessary forms and notes are included in the chart.
- Maintains electronic patient schedule.
- Assure patients have adequate workup prior to their first appointment.
- Calls all patients the day prior to their Pain Medicine Clinic appointment.
- Nicely greets clients and families, escorts to intake room, provides the intake questionnaire, and completes instructions.
- Assures a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, families, visitors, and staff.
- Considers age, growth, and development when providing care.
- Manages telephone contacts throughout the Pain Medicine Clinic, including referral calls, patient appointment reminders, insurance authorization, and prescription refill calls.
- Collaborate effectively with other departments, providers, and third-party payors.
- Performs procedures as defined by department competencies.
- Operates office equipment.
- Notifies Facilities and Bio-Med when equipment needs repairs.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned or requested to meet the day-to-day operations of the department.
- Participates in staff meetings, staff development, and orientation of new staff
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior Authorization:
- High school diploma or GED
- Hands-only CPR competency
- Ability to deal tactfully with the public and staff and to handle confidential work with tact and discretion.
- Operation of office equipment
- Knowledge of spelling, punctuation and grammar, and basic math; knowledge of general office practices and procedures
- Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Experience in an Outpatient Nurse setting.
- Experience in Microsoft Word and Excel.
