Position Summary

NORD is seeking a mid to senior level UI/UX Designer-Developer. The UI/UX Designer-Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining web applications using WordPress and various front-end technologies. The position will fill a key role on the IT team and will be responsible for the development and ongoing performance optimization of NORD’s public facing sites, which cumulatively see more than a million unique visitors each month. The Developer will collaborate across departments, working with content experts to create compelling, efficient, and high conversion web resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and design new features.
  • Developing wireframes and task flows based on user needs.
  • Work on producing user-friendly software by bug fixing and improving application performance and design.
  • Continuously discover, evaluate, suggest, and implement new design and technologies to maximize development efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain web applications using WordPress and other tools.
  • Build, edit and refine responsive, optimized WordPress websites, including custom themes and plugins from wireframes.
  • Work with MySQL databases as part of the website setups.
  • Translate wireframes and design prototypes into functional WordPress pages and PHP code.
  • Execute on web-related projects, such as the creation of microsites, marketing automation (Salesforce) landing pages, and remarketing/retargeting campaigns.
  • Analyze website traffic and trends and provide recommendations for necessary changes.
  • Manage search optimization activities, including working collaboratively with SEO/SEM vendors to execute, monitor and improve search performance.
  • Recommend and develop technology, tools and best practices for optimal website performance, quality, and visibility. Learn and share up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and trends.
  • Perform other duties and functions as assigned.


Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.

3-5 years of experience with UI/UX is a must along with solid web application development experience using WordPress in a business-critical environment, developing strong, usable websites and applications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Minimum 3 years of experience with UI/UX design and development – must have direct hands-on experience with user experience/user interface design and development with mid to large scale websites.

Minimum 3 years’ experience working with WordPress, developing custom plugins, and working with third-party plugins and API integration.

Minimum 3 years’ experience working with MySQL database management.

Minimum 3 years’ experience working with HTML/HTML5, CSS, JS.

Minimum 3 years’ experience building accessible / compliant web applications.

Advanced-level LAMP stack preferred.

Experience with Google Analytics/Search/AdWords and SEO/SEM.

Experience with Salesforce or other CRM systems a plus.

Familiarity of PMO/PMP standards and methodologies; experience with Agile is a plus.

Self-motivated, organized and detail-oriented team player with a positive attitude and a love for what you do.

Working Conditions

This position may be fully telecommuting or hybrid to any of NORD’s offices (Washington, DC, Danbury, CT or Quincy, MA).
