Job Description
Assists in providing patient care and treatment in accordance with the Division of Nursing Standards. Assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment, assists the patient care team in providing various patient care activities and maintains patient focus essential for smooth operations. Performs various patient care activities and related non-professional services required to maintain the therapeutic milieu. Provides care to a general adult population of acutely ill psychiatric patients.
Qualifications
Education & Training: Must have current knowledge of psychological theory and/or related behavioral health theory. AA or Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, or related field, or pursuing a degree in a related healthcare field, or one (1) year experience in the behavioral health field in lieu of degree. Certified by the Maryland State Board of Nursing as a Nursing Assistant required. Current BLS required.
Work Orientation & Experience: Previous experience as a CNA in a behavioral health setting preferred. May require up to (3) weeks of orientation with a preceptor.
Skills & Abilities: Ability to: a) read, write and comprehend medical terminology; b) effectively convey verbal and written information; c) follow directions; d) perform simple mathematical calculations correctly; e) respond to emergency situations appropriately; f) adapt hours of availability to variable and changing needs of the hospital, including all shifts; g) effectively function as a member of a collaborative team; h) organize and manage time effectively, setting appropriate priorities; i) comply with OSHA standards; and j) understands and respects importance of patient privacy and confidentiality; k) develops and promotes a constructive/positive atmosphere within the work area by demonstrating the ability to maintain cooperation with and assist fellow health team members, physicians, intra and inter-departments, hospital and nursing administration.
