GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services. We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries.
This position does not require a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement certificate nor is it a law enforcement position. Performs complex investigative work in support of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, Enforcement Division (ENF), Motor Vehicle Investigations. This position processes, investigates and resolves complaints and/or inquiries regarding business activities regulated by the Department. Work requires contact with high-level executives, attorneys, law enforcement, governmental officials and private entities. Work requires extensive travel. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Reviews and evaluates consumer complaints to determine if a violation has occurred and makes recommendations concerning action to be taken.
- Conducts field investigations and/or investigations of reported and suspected violations of statutes and rules; documents observations/findings.
- Evaluates complaints filed to determine applicability of regulatory statutes.
- Identifies, gathers and examines complex records necessary to complete investigations.
- Develops lists, contacts and/or interviews potential witnesses.
- Prepares and completes investigative reports. Conducts field inspections and completes inspection reports. Issuance of Notice of Violations (NOV) when necessary.
- Coordinates with regulated businesses and consumers r
- Answers inquiries and provides guidance to regulated businesses.
- Conducts research of state and federal statues, regulations and other issues affecting area of jurisdiction.
- Makes recommendations concerning administrative penalties and assists in the settlement of violations.
- Facilitates resolution of complaints through mediation efforts with all concerned parties.
- Maintains case suspense files.
- Provides expert testimony in court cases.
- Required to attend work regularly and adhere to approved work hours in accordance with department policies and procedures.
- Will travel 50% of the time. May include overnight travel. Travels by plane and/or car. May require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or equivalent plus four (4) years progressively responsible experience in criminal or regulatory enforcement investigative work. College education or technical training in law enforcement, investigations or an investigations related field may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. (Experience requirements may be satisfied by full-time experience or the prorated part-time equivalent.) Official sealed transcripts of all college hours/degrees listed on State of Texas application will be required on or before the first day of employment if selected for the position.

REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSURE
A valid Class "C" driver's license is required. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct department business.
