Nature of Work:

Maintains the DSGP youth field playing surfaces and surrounding field complex site. Coordinates and administers a variety of functions of the DSGP performance sport fields and coordinates all prep, maintenance, and restoration of DSGP Youth Fields on site.

Examples of work performed:

  • Supervises and participates in the preparation and maintenance of the DSGP Youth Fields and surrounding landscaping (including the Rapids Practice field and youth field complex) to include sand-based, mineral soil, and synthetic turf fields.
  • Establishes, along with other management, the turf maintenance and general field development priorities and schedules with program supervisors; identifies alternatives and other cost-effective ways to get improved results.
  • Develops, implements, and executes an effective program for maintaining a healthy, durable playing field, including, but not limited to, watering, fertilization, mowing/cutting, aeration, chemical treatments, grooming of synthetic turf, etc.
  • Takes part in recruitment, interviews, hiring, and training of part-time field staff; determines manpower needs and staffing schedule needs.
  • Implements snow and ice removal on natural grass and synthetic surfaces as requested, as well as in general areas such as parking lots and side walkways.
  • Helps to develop and administer the annual playing field and landscape budget; monitors the budget on an ongoing basis and practices cost-effective techniques.

OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cooperates and coordinates with other Stadium and KSE departments in the use of the playing field for ceremonies, sponsorship use, filming, soccer clinics, and non-soccer use of the playing field.
  • Attends herbicide, turf management, irrigation maintenance, and/or pest control classes as directed to stay abreast and knowledge in landscape techniques.
  • Develop layout and construct special landscape projects from designs, blueprints and plans to include planters, planting beds and landscape timbers, ensure work is installed according to project specifications; repair broken posts or fences as directed.
  • Assures required safety standards and precautions, as well as company policies, are followed.
  • Performs related duties as needed or assigned.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES

  • Supervises some seasonal staff part-time staff daily.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

  • Stand up and walk up to 2/3 of time.
  • Sit up to 1/3 of time.
  • Talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, 2/3 or more of the time.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. up to 1/3 of the time.
  • Moderate to very loud noise.
  • Clear vision at 20”, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Material and Equipment Used:

  • Various professional/commercial field maintenance equipment including vertical and rotary, aerifiers, sprayers, verticutters, field painting equipment, snowplows, etc.
  • General office equipment including copier, fax, phone, computer/keyboard, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum
    1. Bachelor of Science in Turf Management preferred; may substitute years of work experience in maintaining grounds and landscape with specialized knowledge of irrigation systems, turf management and high-performance sand based fields, mineral soil fields and synthetic turf fields.
    2. Minimum 3 years of work experience in maintaining grounds and landscape with specialized knowledge of irrigation systems, turf management and high-performance sand based fields, mineral soil fields and synthetic turf fields.
    3. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Preferred
    1. Certified Sports Field Manager (CSFM), preferred.
    2. Experience with field subsurface air and heating systems
    3. Ability to acquire or produce and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet company vehicle driving standards.

Competencies/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of: athletic field design and construction; maintenance herbicides and pesticides; irrigation systems; drainage control methods; the environments surrounding the athletic fields and the ability to implement safeguards as needed.
  • Ability to professionally and successfully interact with staff, supervisors, and other KSE staff, players and MLS officials.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with Commerce City officials, city departments, program participants and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work long, irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to proficiently read, write, and speak English.
  • Possession of, or the ability to, obtain a valid Colorado driver’s license

Compensation:

  • Base salary $55,000.00 per annum
