The Resource Center has been providing services to persons with disabilities in the Chautauqua County area since 1958. From our humble beginnings as a gathering of parents and concerned citizens who wanted to provide educational and training opportunities for persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities, The Resource Center has grown into a comprehensive agency providing services to thousands of persons with all types and levels of disabilities.
The Resource Center is the largest non-governmental employer in Chautauqua County with more than 1,300 employees on its payroll.
The mission of The Resource Center is to support individuals with disabilities and other challenges in achieving maximum independence, contributing to their community, experiencing lifelong growth, and enjoying quality of life.
ALLIED HEALTH ASSISTANTRESPONSIBLE TO:Supervising Pharmacist or Pharmacist FUNCTION:To be responsible for patient prescriptions for the pharmacy and/or orthocare, including billing procedures and monetary transactions. To handle patient contact via telephone and in person. To provide general organization of the pharmacy/orthocare department in a professional and confidential manner. SPECIFIC DUTIES:1. Assists pharmacist in dispensing of prescriptions in accordance with guidelines issued by New York State Board of Pharmacy for unlicensed pharmacy personnel. These duties include receiving written/electronically transmitted prescriptions, key in of prescription data and retrieval from computer file, typing of prescription labels, retrieving proper medication from stock and returning items to stock. 2. To assist patients, in person and via telephone, in courteous and confidential manner. 3. Collect the payment for prescriptions and other items and maintaining records as needed. Responsible for daily bank deposit. 4. Assists in pharmacy and orthocare billing procedures, including preparation of Medicaid, Medicare, and other third party payors and private billings. 5. Maintains pharmacy and orthocare inventory. Places orders with vendors, checks in and puts away all pharmaceutical and DME orders. 6. Assists in the removal of outdated merchandise and the return of this merchandise for credit. 7. Uses a unit-dose heat sealing system to package prescriptions. 8. Inventories and maintains all other pharmacy and orthocare supplies as necessary. 9. Makes daily delivery of medications and obtains medications as necessary from outside sources. 10. Performs filing and recordkeeping duties as assigned. 11. Performs all other duties as requested by the Supervising Pharmacist or Pharmacist. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills, flexibility, neatness and organizational skills; working knowledge of pharmacy and orthocare procedures and medical terminology; must possess working knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, and other third party insurance protocols and procedures; must be self-directed and motivated to complete daily assigned tasks; ability to work under pressure to meet demands of professional staff and/or patient; good time management skills; physical ability to stand for long periods of time; proficient computer skills; understanding of patient confidentiality. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the job. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Associates degree; OR a High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years experience working in a medical, pharmacy, DME or related setting. Valid drivers license or equivalent accommodations required.
