About the Role:
Job Summary
The Trauma Community Outreach, Injury Prevention & Recovery Coordinator, in collaboration with Trauma Services leadership, is responsible for overseeing all aspects of NGMC's trauma related Community Outreach and Injury Prevention programs. The coordinator utilizes the Trauma Registry, NGHS Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) and other data to identify patterns and risks for injury within the region and then uses this information to develop, implement, and evaluate Injury Prevention initiatives. The coordinator also addresses the mental health and recovery aspects of traumatically injured patients during and after the acute hospitalization.
Minimum Job Qualifications
  • Licensure or other certifications: Licensed to practice as a paramedic or RN in Georgia. If RN, professional certification in either a clinical or education specialty within two (2) years.
  • Educational Requirements: Bachelors Degree.
  • Minimum Experience: Three (3) to five (5) years experience in trauma patient care and staff education.
  • Other: Professional organization membership within one month of hire into the role.

  • Preferred Educational Requirements: Nursing or other health related degree.
  • Preferred Experience: Experience in a hospital setting and/or community resource role that includes Injury Prevention.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Trauma Community Outreach. Assesses the needs of the community in regards to trauma awareness in the community. Advocates for community training events to bring awareness to trauma and to promote Injury Prevention. Coordinates and/or participates in the coordination of community events to bring awareness to trauma and to promote Injury Prevention. Collaborates with NGHS Public Relations and other NGHS service lines to participate in priority events in the community. Tracks and reports all Community Outreach activities internally for Trauma Services to share with NGHS leaders for the annual community benefit report.
  • Injury Prevention. Utilizes Trauma Registry, CDC, Community Health Needs Assessment, and other data to identify the patterns, frequencies and risks for injury within the region. Researches and evaluates current evidence-based Injury Prevention programs that address major causes of injury. Collaborates with community partners to determine what, if any, Injury Prevention programs are currently in place. Designs Injury Prevention programs, including implementation and evaluation plan components, based on data analysis and periodic needs assessment. Identifies various Injury Prevention programs' budgetary needs and collaborates with Trauma Services leadership to include in annual department budget. Identifies and submits for possible sources of Injury Prevention program funding, e.g.: grant applications, when appropriate. Implements targeted Injury Prevention programs throughout the region based on specific community needs. Collaborates with appropriate NGHS departments to develop Injury Prevention materials for distribution throughout the region. Increases the community's awareness of NGMC's Trauma Program through the provision of community-based Injury Prevention and outreach activities. Creates and utilizes a reporting tool to track data pertinent to Injury Prevention activities. Creates and implements tools to evaluate the effectiveness of various Injury Prevention programs.
  • Mental Health in Trauma. Partners with the Trauma & Acute Care Surgery clinical team and the Behavioral Health team to ensure an adequate referral process is established and maintained for patients at high risk for PTSD following their traumatic injury. Develops and maintains tracking process to assure compliance for mental health screening on high risk patients. Serves as the institutions Trauma Survivor Network (TSN) coordinator, implementing best practices from the TSN program.
  • Compliance. Ensures NGMC's Trauma Program meets all criteria for outreach, Injury Prevention, and post trauma mental health requirements of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS-COT). Maintains awareness of all current state and national regulatory requirements related Community Outreach, Injury Prevention, and post trauma mental health. Performs all other duties as assigned by Trauma Program Director.
