The mission of Caminar Latino – Latinos United for Peace and Equity (LUPE) is to create opportunities for Latino families to transform their lives and communities and to change the social conditions that give rise to violence. The local and state arm of Caminar Latino operates in Atlanta and is Georgia’s first and only comprehensive domestic violence intervention program for Latino families. The national arm, LUPE, engages in public policy, systems change, and research at the intersection of gender-based violence and Latino identity. In addition, LUPE offers capacity building, training, and technical assistance to nonprofit organizations, advocates, government agencies, and businesses. Caminar Latino – LUPE is a national trailblazer that carries out its mission by creating safe spaces for each family member to begin their journey towards non-violence and by centering the Latino experience into social change efforts nationally for transformation. The vision of Caminar Latino – LUPE is that Latinos live in healthy families, united communities, and a just society.
The Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator will promote the mission and goals of Caminar Latino-Latinos United for Peace and Equity (LUPE) by developing and implementing outreach strategies to engage the community, coordinating volunteer programs, building partnerships, and increasing awareness of the organization's programs and services.
Main job tasks and responsibilities include:
1. Community Engagement:
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with community members, local organizations, and other stakeholders.
- Organize and attend community events, meetings, and fairs to promote the organization and its initiatives.
2. Volunteer Recruitment and Management:
- Recruit and train volunteers to support program activities.
- Coordinate schedules and tasks related to outreach events.
- Serve as lead in the creation of volunteer training. program/curriculum
- Provide support to Volunteers and the front desk during bi-weekly in-person groups.
3. Educational Programs:
- Develop and implement educational programs and workshops to raise awareness about the organization's mission and services.
- Coordinate outreach efforts to schools, colleges, and other educational institutions.
4. Media and Public Relations:
- Work with the communications team to create and implement outreach materials, including press releases, newsletters, and social media content.
- Serve as a spokesperson for the organization, representing its values and goals to the public.
5. Data Collection and Analysis:
- Track and analyze outreach efforts, including attendance at events, community engagement, and partnership success.
- Provide regular reports on outreach activities and make recommendations for improvement.
Mandatory Skills and Abilities:
- Be fluent in Spanish and English.
- Understanding of the Latino community and culture.
- Commitment to the agency’s mission and goals.
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and lifestyles.
- Previous experience in outreach, community engagement, or related fields.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Proficient with computers, 0365, and Zoom.
- Flexibility, including willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Reliability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Identify as a survivor, youth witness, or individual who has used interpersonal violence against partners and/or family members (a minimum of 2 years of not using violence for individuals who have used violence)
- Knowledge about Interpersonal Violence.
Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED. Oral fluency in English and Spanish is required.
This position allows the individual to work remotely an average of 3 days a week and work in our main office (located in Chamblee, GA) two days a week.
