Who We Are:
The Atlanta Community Food Bank is working to end hunger in our community with the food, people and big ideas needed so that no one worries where their next meal is coming from. Since 1979, we've been providing food for a growing network of nonprofit partners - including food pantries, community kitchens, childcare centers, night shelters and senior centers. We currently serve more than 700 partners in 29 counties across metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

About the Role:
The Transportation Specialist II will support the operations of the Atlanta Community Food Bank's Transportation Department. The Transportation department utilizes staff to plan and execute freight movement including donation pickups, and deliveries to partners whose clients are experiencing food insecurity. The individual in the Transportation Coordinator position will assist with administrative tasks related to Transportation, make and answer phone calls, audit paperwork, and assist with other tasks as assigned. Support for some evenings and weekends may be required. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Transportation.
What You'll Do:
Dispatch-Related Activities:

  • Continuously monitor the progress of routes. Stay in communication with drivers and contractors to receive updates on their status, any unexpected delays, or issues that may arise.
  • Process/ship and print invoices for drivers to ensure they have all the paperwork they need in that regard.
  • Make necessary changes to route assignments as directed by management to ensure the continuous flow of driver activities.

Customer Service:
  • Respond to internal customer inquiries regarding shipment status, delivery times, and any concerns or issues. Provide timely and accurate information while offering solutions to meet customer expectations.
  • Coordinate with drivers to escalate service issues to management.
  • Notify customers of delays, changes in delivery times, or any unexpected incidents that may impact their shipments.

Data Entry:
  • Collect all CSFP documents and manually enter the data into the monthly CSFP reporting Excel sheet.
  • Review Omnitracs reports and manually enter all relevant route data into Service Window report.
  • Review Fleet reports and manually enter all relevant maintenance data into Fleet Analysis reports.
  • Perform other data entry tasks as assigned by management.

What You'll Need: Skills and Experience your resume should demonstrate:
  • Strong Communication & Time management skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Demonstrate history with staying organized.
  • Demonstrated ability of maintaining deadlines.
  • Class A commercial license with minimum of 2 years commercial driving.
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with drivers, and other staff
  • Knowledge of DOT compliance, Federal and state regulatory agencies.

Even Better if You Have:
  • Experience working with both perishable and nonperishable food items.
  • Food safety training certification.
  • Routing training certification or verifiable 1 - 2 years routing and dispatching experience.

  • Employee is routinely required to lift and transport heavy items to waist level, up to 75 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, climbing, and walking are required.
  • Required to drive a forklift and operate warehouse equipment.
  • This position would normally have routine opportunities to alter physical position or change eye focus.
  • Frequently operates in temperature conditions consistent with outside weather.
  • Frequently transition between ambient and refrigerator / freezer temperatures.
  • This position requires local travel daily including routine stops which require driver to load and unload truck contents.
