POSITION SUMMARY:
The Transportation Specialist develops a safe and effective driver workforce and efficient pupil transport system through training programs and safety review procedure
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Provide classroom, range, and road training to driver trainees and transportation employees, including training in policies and procedures.
- Responds to and investigates accidents involving APS transportation employees.
- Monitor school buses and drivers at regular intervals to assure safe driving practices and proper student management.
- Provide training in lift bus operation, wheelchair tie-downs, car seat and harness attachments.
- Provide necessary training and instruction in post accident or incident situations.
- Administer annual driver proficiency tests as prescribed by Georgia State Statutes and Rules.
- Maintain and organize driver training and accident files, training and instructional material and state DOE reports.
- Prepare methods of instruction and communication of Safe Rider Practices to students.
- Assess as needed bus stop locations for hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Maintain ongoing knowledge of all federal, state, local driving and student transportation laws, statutes and rules, as well as school board policies.
- Assist as needed with phone, radio, camera, and dispatch communications and operations.
- Assist with planning and participation with in-service meetings, community safety events and the state road.
- Assist as needed with annual bus evacuation drills.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Required to attend scheduled shift during regular business hours as mandated.
Requirements
EDUCATION:
- Technical certification or training required. AA degree preferred.
CERTIFICATION:
- CDL license required.
- Georgia School Bus Driver Trainer/Instructor Certification and 3rd Party Tester License preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 5 years transportation training experience.

SALARY GRADE: 119
SALARY RANGE: Fiscal Year 2023 - 2024 Salary Schedules
WORK DAYS: 252 (Annual)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,313.00 - $60,267.00 per year
