An Overview
What you should bring
The person in this position should be a self-motivated individual who takes initiative to manage and advance the City’s TDM program and other transportation programs/projects through media outlets, continuously improve communication and engagement processes, and get the job done. This person should have comprehensive skills in producing commercial-ready photography as well as a strong understanding of graphic design and video communication strategies to develop print materials and digital media.
The Opportunity – Examples of work
- Designs and produces creative social media and website photos, graphics, and supplemental videos for GO Alex and other Transportation Branch programs (e.g. bikeshare, scooters, paratransit, Vision Zero, complete streets, parking, smart mobility);
- Develops and creates graphic designs and marketing materials for GO Alex and other Transportation Branch programs;
- Communicates important information about transportation options, GO Alex, and Vision Zero programs, projects, events, initiatives, services, and issues to the residents, employees of Alexandria, and the media through media releases and social media content;
- Performs public engagement and Communications for T&ES and the Transportation Branch;
- Coordinates with DASH Bus on Marketing and Communication materials and grants
- Works with the team to plan, organize, and coordinate the production of e-newsletters, webpage updates, community engagement efforts, and event planning logistics;
- Multi-media journalism that researches, writes, copy-edits, and proofs a variety of content and assists with multi-platform delivery of the content;
- Collaborates with other staff and consultants, as applicable, to develop and create content from conception to implementation for multiple projects under tight deadlines;
- Tracks and reports on metrics such as newsletter subscribers, website traffic, and media coverage; and
- Performs related work as required.
Minimum & Additional Requirements
Bachelor's degree in related field and three years of experience in communications, public relations, public information and graphic production or publications editing work, desk top graphic publishing and experience with writing and editing information for wide distribution under deadlines; and completion of college-level courses in journalism, communications, multimedia production, public administration, government, or a related field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. The employee must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state of their residence.
