CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Required Department of Defense Secret level security clearance obtainable within a reasonable amount of time. Responsibilities for this Position:
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Transportation and Logistics Specialist. The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
Coordinates and consolidates domestic and/or export systems across multiple locations to support on time shipments of products
Develops transportation plans that provide the most cost-effective mode while meeting schedule requirements and ensuring compliance with federal regulations
Tracks and monitors shipments and resolves all issues to ensure satisfactory/compliant transport and delivery
Develops and maintains good working relationships with preferred vendors
Maintains current training/awareness to ensure compliance with federal and state DOT regulations
Works closely with management and planning personnel to provide effective and timely transportation solutions
Assists with processing transportation invoices and submits required reports
Handles damage and loss claims against carriers
Leads, directs, guides, and monitors transportation rate quotes for assigned areas
Identifies and implements process improvements
Interprets laws, rules and regulations regarding shipping and prepares applications for import/export control certifications and licenses
Provides transportation policy/procedure awareness
Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to manage change in the work environment and re-plan activities
Ability to grasp and apply new information quickly and efficiently
Ability to handle complex assignments
Solid skills in the Microsoft Office tools
Builds productive internal/external working relationships
Creative, innovative, and able to apply advanced decision-making skills
Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action
Quick and decisive while maintaining professional demeanor when working dynamic and challenging issues
Willingness to provide support after hours and during weekends as needed
PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:
Solid and proven administrative and task oriented background
Experience in areas requiring exceptional communication, organization and time management skills
Experienced multitasker and critical thinker
Proven ability to meet deadlines through continuous monitoring and resolution of issues
Salary Note: This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary.
