The primary responsibility of a county permit inspector is to oversee the implementation of the district highway occupancy program in the designated county or counties. This position involves conducting technical inspections of permit projects, which can include tasks such as ensuring construction project safety, assessing embankment compaction, overseeing major highway occupancy construction, and conducting construction inspections. The role requires a thorough understanding of contract requirements as well as the ability to analyze specifications and drawings. Additionally, you must possess a range of inspection techniques to effectively carry out their duties. You may also be involved in resolving any issues or challenges that arise during the construction process. While you receive general instructions from a technical supervisor, you are expected to exercise independent judgment when making technical decisions related to their assigned work. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 5 days per pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection.
• Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year as an Engineering Technician (commonwealth title); or
• Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (commonwealth titles); or
• Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
• Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
• One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Necessary Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
