Job Description:
Japanese-to-English translators play a vital role in the production of English language research at Nomura, as original Japanese research is one of the main types of content Nomura produces. J2E translators mainly translate notes on major corporations listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange written by research analysts based in Tokyo, but also translate notes written by economists, strategists, and quantitative analysts, among others. J2E translators also help research analysts and other content producers prepare presentation materials for investment seminars, marketing trips, and other events. J2E translators work closely with desktop publishers, editors, reviewers, compliance officers, analysts, and distribution and application specialists to ensure high-quality products are delivered to Nomura clients in a timely manner.
The Associate will be a key member of Nomura's global team that produces English language research from original Japanese language research, and be based in the Americas.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the timely publication of accurate research (equity, strategy, economics, quant) in English.
- Translate research reports from Japanese to English
- Handle various aspects of quality control for the English-language product
Desired Candidate Profile:
- Native English speaker, excellent Japanese reading skills, and the ability to write clearly in English
- Highest level of professional ethics, good conduct practices, and social responsibility
- Knowledge of Japanese industry and economic trends and eagerness to learn
- Detail-oriented, insistent on the highest level of accuracy
- Computer literate, ready to develop proficiency in all software and systems used to produce research reports
- Committed to effective interaction with wide range of research stakeholders, including analysts and production personnel
- Self-starter, contributes positively to team-based effort and thrives in a fast-paced, challenging environment
- Basic understanding of accounting and corporate financial statements, willing to learn more if required
- Direct experience in translation of securities industry research is a plus but not required.
*base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, corporate and functional title and duties, job-related knowledge and advanced degrees, skills, and experience.
