Job Purpose: Our programs serve youth ages 18 - 21 who are receiving mental health treatment. Responsibilities of the position include: engaging in activities with youth, supervision of youth, behavior management, role modeling and Direct Support in the development of life skills, transporting residents, documentation and various other duties as assigned. All positions are located at our campus in Mt. Vernon, IL.
Primary Responsibilities:
Supervision: Responsible for the direct supervision of youth and ensuring all specialized supervision plans are being maintained and followed at all times
Program Operations:
- Ensure daily care, welfare, safety and security of all youth.
- Follow program schedule/routine and assist in providing recreational and leisure activities to promote physical/emotional well-being of the youth.
- Actively engage with clients by teaching and role-modeling positive self-care and life skills necessary to be self-sufficient (i.e. cooking, money management, work readiness, education, social skills).
- Complete daily required documentation
- Provide transportation to and from scheduled appointments, visits, etc.
- Ensure youth medications are given and documented as prescribed
- Implement Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) as required
Other:
- Assist in maintaining clean and sanitary standards within the home and grounds to meet required standards
- Follow prescribed crisis, emergency, and on-call procedures
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Must be at least 25 years old
- Have at least a high school diploma or GED
- Have a VALID Illinois driver's license with a clean driving record
- Pass all required tests: drug screen, physical, TB, and fit-for-duty
- Pass a background check through Illinois State Police, FBI, and DCFS
- Job requires strength/mobility to perform Therapeutic Crisis Intervention
Desired:
- Minimum qualifications plus previous experience working with youth
- Mental health experience
- Bachelor's Degree in a human services field
Skills: Must have good interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and conflict resolution skills, as well as patience.
Miscellaneous: Must maintain background and driving clearances. Must conduct self in a professional manner in order to promote and maintain positive public relations for Spero Family Services. Contribute to a team work approach in an effort to accomplish established goals.
