Peer Support Specialist Responsibilities:
- Provide Peer Support to LGBTQIA+ individuals who struggle with mental health and/or addiction
- Help clients achieve goals
- Serve as a bridge for community members to connect with treatment and recovery through shared community values and identity
- Empower clients to connect with the recovery community and find long-term recovery
- Collaborate with peers, counselors, supervisors, and community partners
- Document activities and uphold the highest standards of professional ethics
- Meet clients in the community to support and advocate for them during medical appointment
Minimum Peer Support Specialist Requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 40 Hours of OHA Accredited Peer Support Training OR willingness to complete this as soon as training program is offered after hire
- Demonstrated experience serving the LGBTQIA+ community
- Desire to help people suffering mental health and/or addiction achieve long-term recovery
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- ALL EMERGENCE STAFF ARE REQUIRED TO BE FULLY VACCINATED AGAINST COVID-19
Preferred Qualifications:
- CRM credential preferred
- Knowledge of local resources and supports
- Experience with the following: working with the LGBTQIA+ community, working with the BIPOC community, evidence-based trauma modalities, working with adolescents and/or adults in gender-confirming therapy, treating eating disorders, treating co-occurring disorders chemical dependency.
