ABOUT SHERIDAN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
JOB SUMMARY
Performs general office duties, transcribes pathology reports and maintains accurate files. Maintains Pathology office equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments and with physicians.
- Has working knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy.
- Maintains supplies, orders as necessary.
- Regularly reviews office procedures and implements revisions as appropriate.
- Documentation meets current standards and policies for the hospital and accrediting agencies.
- Demonstrates flexibility of adjust to the uneven workflow and changing priorities of the department.
- Demonstrates ability to problem solve and resolve issue which occur outside of the normal situation.
- Transcripts pathology and cytology reports with minimal errors.
- Print histories for cytology and pathology specimens.
- Bone marrow reports and autopsies, as needed.
- Diagnoses entered into the computer.
- Transcribe letters, memorandums, send slides and/or blocks. Maintains a record of where slides and blocks are sent and returned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education / Experience / License and Certifications
- High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), required.
- Courses in medical terminology and anatomy preferred
Additional Skills
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Basic computer knowledge and word processing skills.
- Knowledge on use of dictating/transcribing software preferred.
Specific demands not listed: Possible exposure to blood and or body fluids / infectious disease / hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Exposure to odorous chemicals / specimens and Latex products.
