Summary:

 

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Training Support Specialist II to join our team to provide course support services at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, in support of the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence (MEDCoE)/Department of Operational Medicine (DoOM). In this role, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive support for training programs and initiatives. The Training Support Specialist II will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful planning, execution, and evaluation of training activities, while also providing logistical and administrative support as needed.

 

This position is located in Fort Sam Houston, TX.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare, position, reset, and recover/store medical training manikins for training in outdoor High Threat extraction training stations, outdoor Care Under Fire (CUF)/ Tactical Field Care (TFC) lanes, and indoor Battalion Aid Station (BAS) scenarios.
  • Aid Station management. Clean, restock, recycle, and reset medical supplies and equipment in battalion aid station (BAS) training lanes at both JBSA Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis training locations. BAS turnovers per class by site.
  • Just-in-time reconfiguration of training classroom to prepare, stock, reset, maintain, and clean/recover/store medical skill station training aids, supplies and equipment for workshops in hemorrhage control, splinting, airway management, rapid sequence induction (RSI) and intubation, intraosseous access, thoracic trauma management, MASCAL, pediatric trauma, walking blood bank, and lateral canthotomy and cantholysis (LCC) skills.
  • Medical sets/kits assemblage and distribution. Student M9 aid bags emptied after each class and restocked for the next class. Medication kits in the student bags, battalion aid stations, and on medication and rapid sequence induction (RSI) skill stations refilled and validated.
  • Lane Realism Enhancement. Position, prepare, operate, and recover audio speakers and stage fog machines during training events to replicate sights and sounds of combat to enhance training realism.
  • 6 Camp Bullis Support. A 1:1 ratio of course delivery support staff to Instructor is needed for events.
  • Construct and prepare a corral for models in accordance with applicable protocols and regulations. Complete removal of used bedding and disinfection of corral and shave area after trauma lanes have commenced.
  • Adhere to all Animal Use Protocols and Veterinary protocols at all times. This includes maintaining currency on required briefings, Occupational Health exams, and input on model use logs.
  • Assist instructors with model wrangling, shaving, and verification of satisfactory anesthesia. This includes humane capture and physical restraint of models while veterinary staff induces anesthesia, assisting with shaving of models and carrying to the appropriate lab table for veterinary staff to intubate and place an IV anesthesia line, and assist with measuring and recording the first two sets of vital signs prior to veterinary staff’s confirmation of anesthesia an clearance for training.
  • When necessary, assist veterinary staff with monitoring and recording serial vital signs every 15 minutes during the training event.
  • Retrieve and deliver equipment and supplies required by instructors or students during the conduct of training to facilitate uninterrupted training. Assist instructors with BAS station resets between training events.
  • Assist instructors in applying combat wound patterns to models during conduct of training.
  • Maintain continuous access control (sentry duty) at Camp Bullis Training Site 8 to prevent unauthorized personnel from accessing the training site without clearance by the course OIC/NCOIC and attending veterinarian.
  • Review and provide input to course documents including student guides, facilitator guides, briefings, and other ancillary course support materials. Review/Input is specific to logistics, equipment, and material for course delivery. (i.e., student bag preparation, kits, and course-specific medical material requirements).
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance, inventory, laboratory set up and tear down, clean up, and sanitation.
  • Prepare and update monthly reports for training delivery supply and inventory tracking, re-supply identification, and schedules (i.e., warehouse pick up and equipment transport) per established course requirements.

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to effectively train others on High Threat extraction training stations, outdoor Care Under Fire (CUF)/ Tactical Field Care (TFC) lanes, and indoor Battalion Aid Station (BAS) scenarios.  
  • Strong knowledge in medical education, training, or instructional design, preferably in a healthcare setting. 
  • Strong knowledge of development and delivery of medical training programs 
  • Familiar with emergency medical equipment and supplies and possess the ability to train others. 
  • Skill station management.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer service-oriented approach.
  • Proficiency in using technology and digital tools for training management and support.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Experience working with learning management systems (LMS) and virtual training platforms is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma.
  • At least 3-4 years of relevant medical training experience.
  • Physical Requirements: Required to lift and carry equipment and/or materials weighing up to 200 pounds as part of a 2-person team (prorated 100 pounds per individual).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Military service experience, particularly in the medical field.
  • Knowledge of instructional design principles and adult learning theory is a plus.
