JOB SUMMARY
The Training Manager reports directly to the Field Operations Director. The Training Manager is responsible for developing and facilitating technical training skills for Corpsmembers as they relate to SFCC programs and projects. This position is essential to SFCC’s ability to fulfil job readiness program needs and complete SFCC fee-for-service projects. Training includes but is not limited to, proper workplace safety procedures, hands-on tool use, horticulture skills, environmental advocacy, professionalism, and teamwork. The Training Manager will readily support both Natural Resources and Zero Waste projects as needed. The Training Manager will also assist Corpsmember and Staff with onboarding and orientation. Other duties may be assigned.
Tasks include:
- Collaborating with Program/Project Partners to identify training needs and to develop training curriculum.
- Work cross-functionally to develop, track, and report on training goals and outcomes.
- Work with Field Operations Managers to supervise and maintain in-house training facilities, equipment, and inspections.
- Keep detailed training records of Corpsmember/Staff.
- Conduct weekly and monthly training for Corpsmember/Staff in a classroom setting and outside the field.
- Research industry standards and best practices to ensure SFCC’s training best prepares its Corpsmembers for careers.
- Responsible for renewing and improving tailgate training.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below represent the required knowledge, skill, and/or ability.
· Experience designing and facilitating training for a diverse audience.
· Understands basic classroom management strategies, can deliver training content through various modalities and has the know-how related to leveraging engagement strategies.
· Earned Associates or Bachelor’s degree.
· Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate young adults from a wide variety of social, economic and educational backgrounds.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and mediate disputes positively.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software
· Clean DMV record, with the ability to earn a California Class B driver’s license.
The following qualifications are strongly preferred:
· Experience in a related field, especially focused on natural resources management, landscaping, horticulture, environmental advocacy, or Zero Waste/Recycling or other equivalent experience.
· Understanding of recycling, waste management and/or conservation
· Experience in the operation of trucks and trailers[GS1]
· Knowledge of hand and power tools
· Knowledge of Native Plants and Ecological Restoration
· Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced and diverse environment.
Education and Experience
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities qualifies. Typical avenues of obtaining the appropriate knowledge and abilities for this position are as follows:
· At least two years of experience in youth development, project management, or the implementation of recycling or natural resource projects or
· At least two years of college education or vocational training in natural resource management, environmental studies, job training or counselling from an accredited college or university, or
· Four years of supervisory experience

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is required to walk and use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls. Also, the employee may be required to lift up to 75 lbs., pull up to 150 lbs., reach with hands and arms, and perform simple grasping and fine manipulation. Other situations include sitting at a desk while using a computer and in meetings, driving or riding in a flatbed truck for long periods, intermittently twisting to reach equipment surrounding the desk, and climbing a ladder to a flatbed truck.
