Job Summary:

The Purchasing Agent will oversee the process of acquiring goods and services, by asking for proposals, consulting with suppliers, and reviewing price quotations, under the supervision of the Chief Mechanical Officer.

 

The Details:Position Type: Full-Time, Year-RoundPay: $18.90Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Fully understand and support Xanterra's Mission Statements and Core Values.
  • Verifies purchase requisitions by comparing items requested, clarifying unclear items, and recommending alternatives.
  • Determines methods of procurement, such as direct purchase or bid. Prepares bid requests and issues purchase orders.
  • Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority
  • Maintains manual or computerized procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality, or performance.
  • Organize purchasing records and make them easily accessible to departments.
  • Work with department heads to streamline product research and decision-making.
  • Coordinate and communication strategies between mechanical department staff, purchasing, and the warehouse departments.
  • Implement company standard EAM computerized purchasing.
  • Responsible for the tool crib area, cleaning and maintaining tools, keeping records of tools and equipment, and inventory control in the tool crib to prevent shortages.
  • Identifies common parts such as plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and maintenance products.
  • Recognizes safety hazards and corrects unsafe situations immediately.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective professional working relationship with staff, co-workers, directors, and other departments; by working together in a positive work environment.
  • Responsible for effective enforcement of all Xanterra and Railway standards, procedures, policies, and environmental programs.
  • Maintain a daily routine that keeps the tool room and supply area clean, orderly, safe, and secure.
  • Adhering and complying with all prescribed Company, statutory/regulatory policies, and procedures regarding worker safety, vehicle operation, and risk management.
  • Under the direction of the Chief Mechanical Officer oversee purchases, invoicing, stocking, tracking, and issuing of tools and materials to reduce loss and ensure operational costs and conforming to budget limitations.
  • Under the direction of the Chief Mechanical Officer, place orders accurately and on time for parts and supplies to ensure critical parts are available on-demand for equipment identified as mission critical.
  • Under the direction of the Chief Mechanical Officer, receive all orders; check delivery items with invoices and ensure proper handling and stocking.
  • Adhere to all prescribed Environmental Management Systems (EMS) policies and corporate commitments.
  • Must stay current on Hazardous Material Transportation Certification classes to receive fuel at the Shop.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years' experience in industrial purchasing.
  • Previous experience with inventory control & maintenance.
  • Must possess a valid/clear Arizona Driver's License and comply with Xanterra/GCR Vehicle/Equipment Policy.
  • Must be at least 19 years of age.

 

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is:

  • Constantly, handling, listening, hearing, and speaking.
  • Frequently sitting, reaching outward and above shoulder, bending, stooping, lifting items weighing up to 20lbs pushing, and pulling items weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasionally standing, walking, climbing, squatting/kneeling.
  • May be required to stand for long periods and walk on cement floors and occasionally walk on uneven surfaces.
