Position Description
Under general direction, performs various technical and mechanical tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of traffic control signals and other traffic control devices in accordance with appropriate standards, drawings, manuals, and operation/maintenance procedures prepared by Traffic Signal Maintenance Group.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Provide responsive and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment repair and installation of various traffic control equipment and related devices.
- Oversee the work of skilled and/or semi-skilled contract workers performing various tasks relating to the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices.
- Investigate and respond to complaints from the public and implement resolution of problems.
- Inspect and approve work performed by Contractor(s).
- Establish and maintain cooperative, effective, and productive working relationship using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
- High School diploma GED Equivalent.
- 4 years’ experience as a Traffic Signal Technician or
- 5 years’ experience performing electrical work in industrial, utility, military or construction environments required.
Licensure
- A valid driver’s license (Texas upon hire).
- Applicant must provide and maintain proof of automobile liability insurance upon employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Knowledge of Principles and practices of the construction, installation, and maintenance of electrical and electronic devices.
- Knowledge of Occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to assigned work tasks.
- Communicate effectively during in-person contact with the public and other County personnel.
- Effectively plan and organize work and complete assignments within prescribed timeframes.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, schematics, wiring diagrams, work orders and develop changes to accommodate field conditions.
- Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Knowledge of Computer business applications (Microsoft Office) and specialized applications related to traffic control equipment operations and diagnostics.

Preferences
- Associate degree in Electronics and/or Computer Science
Or
Military / Trade School training in Electronics and/or Computer Science
Experience
- 5 years’ experience as a Traffic Signal Technician
- 6 years’ experience performing electrical work in industrial, utility, military or construction environments required.
- Knowledge of Texas Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD).
- International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) certification(s) in Work Zone, Level I Traffic Signal Technician or Traffic Signal Inspector.
- Public Agency training certifications related to traffic control devices.
- Training certifications from traffic control device manufacturers.

Salary Information
- Commensurate With Experience.
- Based On 26 Pay Periods.
- 40 Hours per Week / 8 Hours per Day, Monday - Friday, Subject to Early Mornings, Evenings, Weekends & Holidays as required.
- Employees are expected to work a five-day work week comprised of 8-hour days with fixed starting and ending times.
Alternative Work Schedule (voluntary with Manager approval):
- Staggered work hours provide that an employee or group of employees work a fixed schedule with staggered starting and ending times.
- Within a given group, employee schedules may vary. 7:00am to 4:00pm, 7:30am to 4:30pm, and 8:30am to 5:30pm days with fixed starting and ending times.
Location
Work Environment
Work outdoors for extended periods under unfavorable weather conditions.
Bend, stoop, reach (over shoulders, at waist, below waist), walk and stand for prolonged periods when installing, repairing and maintaining traffic control devices.
Lift and carry 50 pounds occasionally, up to 35 pounds frequently and 10 pounds routinely.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
