POSITION SUMMARY:

A Traffic Technician is a Union position. If you are not yet a member, we can help facilitate the onboarding process. Traffic Technicians direct traffic for road construction crews and or utility crews. Traffic Control Technicians hold a paddle with "Stop" on one side and "Slow" on the other which they use to help indicate motorists to slow down, stop, and pass through the work zone. Traffic Control Technicians often work in conjunction with other Traffic Control Technicians, with each standing at opposite ends of the construction area and coordinating traffic flow via communication, either via two-way radio or hand signals. At times, they will use the assistance of barricades, cones, vehicle placement, and other devices which they position alongside the roadway. A Traffic Control Technician must have a valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record.

A Traffic Control Tech has the responsibility to protect the lives of our customers, motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists and themselves on the roadway.

POSITION DUTIES:

  • Maintain a consistent and unrelenting focus on safety throughout all job functions
  • Manage day to day work zone set up, maintenance and tear down. Meeting or exceeding customer, state, federal and company expectations
  • Ability to recognize dangers using hearing and vision
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and take safe action to avoid serious injuries to any pedestrians, vehicles, customers, and employees
  • Ability to understand traffic signals/signs, traffic plans and customer requests
  • Ability to communicate with customers, the public, and with other team members
  • Follow company and state guidelines for effective, safe well managed work zones
  • Drive company trucks as needed
  • Keep equipment in trucks well organized and in working order
  • Develop superior knowledge of work zone setup and Professional Flagging responsibilities
  • Provide the highest level of customer service to all customers. This includes on-time arrival and well managed work zones.

What you need to be amazing at B.A.T.S

Education: High School Diploma preferred but not required.

Language: English.

Experience: 2+ years’ experience in a similar role. Journeyman level Laborers Union classification, or equivalent experience. Flexible Schedule a must.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift carry and place traffic cones to ensure the safety of the work zone. Lifting may be up to 50 lbs.
  • Lift, carry, place, and assemble Traffic Control signs in the proper order to manage work zone traffic.
  • Stand for long periods of time while flagging, in various weather conditions and different times of day/night.
