This position is responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining rail lines. The Track Laborer’s primary responsibilities include general labor duties including, but not limited to track construction and maintenance, equipment and tool maintenance, clean-up of work area grounds and company assets. Must have working knowledge of hand tools and be able to work in adverse seasonal conditions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Remove and replace track and track components (e.g. ties, rails, bars, etc)
- Replace or repair track switches with specific components
- Slide and align tie plates
- Drill holes through rails for insertion of bolts and tighten or loosen bolts at joints that hold ends or rails together
- Correct deviations in track surface, alignment, and gauge
- Cut rails to specific lengths
- Adjust, lift, and roll rails
- Sort track material for loading and unloading
- Install and repair street and railroad crossings
- Spray switches, angle bars and joints with oil for lubrication
- Cut brush and vegetation from the right-of-way
- Receive instructions, requests, orders, and information from posted bulletins, memorandums, rules and regulation manuals
- Participate in group discussions including meetings, job briefings, and safety meetings or process reviews

Education, Experience, and/or Physical Requirements
- Good Safety record
- Possess a valid Driver’s License
- Able to Perform Common Labor Task when not operating equipment
- Class A CDL is a plus, must be able to acquire
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
- Must have the ability to work at heights, as well as climbing stairs, lift up to 80 pounds, and work in hot or cold environments.
