GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the General Ledger Manager, this position performs highly complex (senior-level) accounting work. Work involves preparing and/or overseeing the preparation of financial analyses and reports, establishing, maintaining, and/or overseeing accounting systems, procedures, and controls. May supervise the work of others. Position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree, and major coursework in Accounting, Finance or Banking.
Experience:
Two or more years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, banking, financial audit, financial operations and/or related state government experience.
Two or more years of full-time experience using USAS, CAPPS and/or other accounting software and systems.
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
Licensure:
A valid class "C" Texas driver's license.
ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS
Experience:
Master's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field may be substituted for two years of work experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Experience:
Previous experience with a state agency or institution of higher education.
Experience in the preparation of an AFR for a Texas state agency or university.
Experience with appropriation management and cash management functions.
Experience with state of Texas multi-fund governmental accounting.
Experience using USAS, CAPPS, SAS and SIRS.
Experience with Excel functions including VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, macros and pivot tables.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems.
Knowledge of Texas state agency operations, policies and procedures preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, alternative work schedule may be available with supervisor approval; working arrangements may change at any time as business necessitates.
This position is suitable to telework two days per week and the candidate may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
Required to work overtime, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
May be required to operate a state vehicle.
Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures.
Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
