Job description

Objective of Position:  Assist the Manufacturing Supervisor in the following:

 

Principal Responsibilities:

Safety

  1. Adheres & manages all safety rules and regulations to assure a safe environment for all people
  2. Verifies that all assigned personnel have received all required safety training
  3. Maintains assigned shop areas in a neat, orderly and safe condition by deploying 5S

Quality

  1. Along with Engineering, Quality Control, and Service Dept, insures that products meets company standards and are built to drawings or specifications using approved methods
    1. Follows all Engineering and Manufacturing memos
    2. Follows all routings set-up for parts
    3. Follows all cut sheets
    4. Consults with the Plant Manager and/or Quality Manager when any deviation is deemed necessary

Production Areas

  1. Performs all labor activities of assigned work area as needed
  2. Supervises all shop floor personnel in the assigned area
  3. Assigns personnel to specific areas or projects
  4. Assures that the personnel have the required instruction, tools, parts, prints, etc.
  5. Plans production throughput to meet or exceed the master production schedule in assigned area
  6. Monitors/tracks hours worked by employees, evaluates based on established standards, helps establish new standards and communicates performance to production employees
  7. Works toward increasing efficiencies in all facets of manufacturing
  8. Works with and maintains excellent communication with all departments at all levels to insure that products and processes meet Trail King standards of Quality, Safety, Cost and Delivery              
  9. Uniformly enforces and acts as a role model in the adherence to company rules, policies and procedures set forth by the company handbook and management
  10. Continually evaluates the work of personnel in area
  11. Assists personnel, through education and training, to improve their understanding of the machinery and product being produced
  12. Prepares performance evaluations of personnel by qualifying and quantifying the skills, abilities, strengths and weaknesses of all people in the assigned area of responsibility
  13. Keeps open lines of communication between all areas of the shop to help alleviate potential problems
  14. Works any and all shifts as required
  15. Tests, interviews and evaluates skills and potential of new hire or posted candidates
  16. Attend continuing education as directed by the company
  17. Identify all critical type positions and insure backup personnel is in place; send personnel for training as necessary, and see backup personnel is rotated in position to maintain skills
  18. Performs additional tasks appropriate to the job as assigned by management i.e. but not limited to Lean Projects, Lean Enterprise Initiatives, and Cost Reduction Projects

Inventory/Warehouse area

  1. Responsible for the assistance in supervision of all material handling and shipping/receiving personnel.
    1. Assist in ensuring materials are being received and located properly.
    2. Assist in ensuring work flow through the warehouse is efficient and timely.
    3. Assist in ensuring out going shipments are done correctly and in a timely manner.
    4. Assist in ensuring all discrepancies and shortages are being reported to the proper departments and steps taken to correct.
    5. Assist in ensuring that we are abiding by CC Industries rules by use of preferred carriers on shipments.
    6. Assist in enforcing all company rules, policies and procedures.
    7. Ensures employees are trained in the proper practices and procedures for their job functions.
  2. Interacts effectively with all departments at Trail King, shipping sources and some vendors.
    1. Work with purchasing personnel on shortages, discrepancies, damaged and returned goods.
    2. Work with engineering personnel on Bill of Material discrepancies.
    3. Work with parts and warranty personnel on shipments to customers including but not limited to the follow up on sales orders ensuring parts are ordered or being fabricated to ensure timely delivery to customers.
    4. Work with other supervisors and assistants to ensure the proper parts and quantities are getting to production in a timely manner.
  3. Works with all levels of Materials Team.
    1. Assists in cycle counting of product.
    2. Assists in the setting up and maintaining of purchased kanban items including but not limited to email kanban orders to vendors, communications with vendors of shortages and lead time changes and adjustments to kanban quantities when necessary.
    3. Assists Supervisor with employee evaluations and work history entries
    4. Assists in driving the setup and maintenance of stock locations.
    5. Assists in driving the preparation for the annual physical inventory and helps oversee and direct inventory crews on the day of the physical.
  4. Maintain work area in a neat, orderly and safe condition.
  5. Keep open line of communication between all areas to help alleviate potential problems.
  6. Assists in ensuring quality standards are met and production "shortsheets" are completed and followed through.
  7. Participate in daily work requirement in the area.

Performance Measurements:

  1. Assures conformance to Personnel and Safety policies and procedures
  2. Responsible for products meeting Trail King's quality, efficiency standards, and schedules

Position Qualifications:

  1. Prefer a minimum of 5 years trailer manufacturing experience
  2. Possess competencies, or possess the ability to learn competencies, with all fixtures, routings, structures, etc. that affect the assigned area
  3. Possess an excellent work history
  4. Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to work with all levels of management and staff
  5. Open minded and possess the skills to research and weigh all facts before coming to conclusions or making decisions
  6. Possess the ability to control emotions in stressful situations
  7. Self motivated and an independent worker
  8. Possess strong organizational and planning skills
  9. Willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including any and all shifts, in order to cover any assigned work area
  10. Familiar with Lean Enterprise/Manufacturing concepts
  11. Experience with computers
  12. Previous supervision experience is a plus

  2. Work Environment:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to changes in temperature and humidity, exposure to dust, fumes and is near moving machinery.
