Title: Tissue Culture (TC) Assistant

Job Description
The TC Technician at Yakima Chief Ranches (YCR) is a hybrid role within the Research Department that interfaces between commercial, breeding support, and novel applied research activities. The position primarily involves work in generating virus-free plants and polyploid breeding lines, and in supporting the commercial micropropagation lab by running micropropagation optimization trials.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Induction of new plant material into TC
- Virus elimination in Tissue Culture
- Subculturing/Refreshing and expanding Tissue Cultures
- Updating and using our inventory tracking systems
- Coordinating and communicating with molecular lab for virus testing
- Documenting and communicating progress of work orders
- Generating, maintaining, and karyotyping of polyploid cultures
- Design and execution of trials and experiments
- Technical writing (SOPs and some report writing)
This list is not meant to be all-inclusive. The TC Development Lead must be adaptive and will occasionally be required to perform a wide range of tasks outside the scope of this description.
Qualifications:
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Training:
- Bachelor’s degree in Plant Biology, Biotechnology, Agriculture, or related field
- Verifiable experience in plant Tissue Culture, not including lab coursework
- Demonstrable ability to perform molar calculations and basic algebra
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to follow detailed, multistep, written, and verbal instructions
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to manage several projects and prioritize time and resources according to department goals
Desired Qualifications:
- 1+ years hands-on experience in plant Tissue Culture
- Experience in microscopy
- Advanced coursework in plant biology or plant physiology.
- Working knowledge of plant hormones and effects on plant growth
Schedule:
40 hours per week, and limited weekends during the month of September.

Pay: $27.00 - $37.00 per hour
