Current vacancy is with HHSA located in Tulare. The anticipated life of the list is six months.
This position is responsible to assist Physical and Occupational (PT/OT) Therapists in the treatment of physically handicapped patients, perform clerical and reception duties, and to maintain and clean therapy equipment and treatment areas.
Assist PT and/or OT Therapists in the delivery of treatment to physically handicapped patients; observe and report patient behavior; assist patients in putting on and removing clothing, braces, and other adaptive devices and prosthetics; weigh and measure patients; position patients in various orthopedic equipment; assist in maintaining equipment, supplies, and hydrotherapy pools: accompany or transfer patients to and from the therapy rooms; assist therapist in making adaptive equipment; open, close, and maintain patient charts; keep treatment areas, workshops and kitchen areas clean and orderly; disinfect mats and equipment; answer telephone and provide routine clerical and office support; may type reports, correspondence and schedules. Essential job duties may be assigned that are not listed above but are relative to this job classification.
Minimum qualifications are used as a guide for establishing the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license which are required and equivalent to the following.
Education and Experience: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, and completion of a recognized training program in basic patient care AND six (6) months of experience in a medical or educational facility assisting in the rehabilitation/education of physically and /or occupationally handicapped individuals.
Equivalency for Education and Experience: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade AND six (6) months of experience as a nursing assistant supervised by professional medical personnel.
Knowledge of:Preparation of patients and other assistance procedures involved in treatment; use and care of therapy equipment and materials; disinfecting methods involved with equipment; therapy office procedures and record keeping; medical terminology and medical records filing systems.
Skill/Ability to: Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers; operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment; learn to administer simple therapeutic activities under the direction of a therapist; learn basic principles, methods, and procedures of therapy treatment and therapy unit routine including clerical operations; learn and use medical terminology related to PT/OT handicapping conditions; understand and follow oral and written instructions; transport and lift physically handicapped patients; interact effectively with co-workers, patients, relatives of the patients, therapists and others who interface with the therapy unit in situations that require a high degree of tact.
Conditions of Employment:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
