Description
Purpose:
The Design Assurance Engineer contributes to the New Product Development (NPD) process by following standardized procedures to provide specific quality and test technical responsibilities, such as contributing to specification creation, developing, and implementing test plans, developing and implementing inspection plans and documenting results.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Design Assurance Engineer shall be able to perform each essential duty listed below. These duties demonstrate the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position. The Design Assurance Engineer shall demonstrate total ownership over the following over-arching primary duties/responsibilities. Actively participate in the bid and proposal process as well as lead and ensure internal and external qualification and production transition of all new products.
Manage NPD testing in Gentex and at third party test agencies.
Create test plans and reports for product verification and validation on NPD programs.
Analyze engineering designs for inspectability and testability.
Develop procedures and determine measurement and test equipment requirements for testing of NPD hardware.
Work with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to define test and inspection requirements to verify and validate key product characteristics, process control parameters, and tooling for successful production transition.
Team with Quality Engineering to define appropriate inspection/test points to implement the inspection requirements, tooling, templates, gages, and fixtures.
Act as liaison between Engineering, Test Lab, and Quality Departments for NPD Programs.
Support and participate in the preparation and conduct of all phases of Design Reviews.
Support proposals and quotations.
Specify equipment for new test or inspection requirements.
Utilize test data and analysis software to communicate results to customers (internal & external) in a timely manner.
Ensure First Article Inspection, Physical Configuration Audits and Functional Configuration Audits are complete for NPD Programs when required.
Coordinate inspection / test requests for assigned programs.
Completes other duties as directed by Management.
Requirements
EXPERIENCE:
The individual shall possess 0-2 years of years of experience in a product development environment. Experience with the development of new products, Design of Experiments (DOE) and/or other experimental methods, and project planning is desired. Experience with Military Specifications, and ISO/AS quality management standards knowledge/experience is a plus.
EDUCATION AND/OR PROFESSIONAL LICENSE(s):
The individual shall possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or equivalent or an Associate in Science (AS) degree with minimum of 4 -6 years' relevant experience in one of the following areas; Quality Assurance, Quality Engineering, Test Verification, or Systems Engineering.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The individual shall be able to lead the New Product Development verification and validation process and transition to production for assigned programs.
The individual shall have technical competence and fluency in laboratory test methods.
The individual shall be able to execute all phases of New Product Development (NPD) verification and validation process
The individual shall be self-motivated, results-oriented, be able to work with minimal supervision, manage assigned projects to produce consistent, accurate, and on time work.
The individual shall be able to work in a fast-paced environment, have a strong analytical/problem solving skills.
The individual shall be detail oriented with solid organizational skills and possess excellent written and verbal communication & presentation skills and strong interpersonal skills.
The individual shall be experienced with common Microsoft Office software programs, Test Software such as MatLab or LabView, and Data Analysis software such as MiniTab.
The individual shall be able to perform independently and in a collaborative team environment.
SUPERVISION:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The individual must have a high level of comprehension, and a high level of general, verbal, and numerical intelligence.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Works majority of the day in a climate-controlled environment, with the exception of or otherwise specified, performing work in the warehouse or manufacturing areas which are subject to changes in temperature and/or noise.
