Job description

This position has different seasonal responsibilities.

The winter role assists the Terrain Park Supervisor with design and build of Terrain Parks based on company vision and goals. This role assists with maintenance of park features, maintaining Terrain Parks as per outlined plans and is the primary trainer and mentor for Terrain Park grooming operators. This position will also assist with snowmaking.

The primary duty in the summer months is to serve as a heavy equipment operator and assist with forest management and Trail mastication, maintenance of on-mountain and village roads, assist other departments with equipment operational needs, e.g. capital projects such as snowmaking improvements, parking lot projects, planning department projects, hill crew projects, and any other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5-7 years operating grooming, Terrain Park grooming and heavy equipment.
  • Expert knowledge of Terrain Park build, feature construction and Terrain Park design and grooming.
  • Ability to coordinate and lead projects such as village and on-mountain forest management.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment when performing highly skilled tasks.
  • Sawyer experience and the ability to fell 24-48" trees.
  • Proficient Welder.
  • Able to work at heights, climbing and rope skills as needed for lift evacuation.
  • Ability to work in a high stress, fast paced, and changing environment.
  • Must consider service and safety top priorities.
  • Self-starter who is capable of determining the needs of the operation and prioritizing work based on input from Fleet and Surfaces Director and peers.
  • Must be familiar with basic computer programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Adhere to employee handbook policies and be a professional example to other employees.

DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

Summer

  • Perform on-mountain excavation, grading, road maintenance and parking lot grading.
  • Conduct erosion control and Trail building and maintenance tasks using heavy equipment.
  • Operate dozers, excavator, backhoe, chipper, masticator while maintaining and creating trails and roads around the resort.
  • Trim, limb and fell trees.
  • Provide needed support for drilling and blasting stumps.
  • Stump and debris removal with heavy equipment.
  • Assist Mountain Operations departments which may include snowmaking maintenance, vehicle and lift maintenance and a variety of tasks related to current capital projects.
  • Assist with summer lift evacuation as needed including hiking, climbing ladders and use of rescue rope.
  • Serve as a ground leader in a lift evacuation as needed including excellent communication skills, hiking, climbing ladders and use of rescue rope.
  • Assist Patrol in a summertime rescue scenario.
  • Assist all departments with welding needs.
  • Complete all duties as safely and efficiently as possible.
  • Assist Vehicle Maintenance in the summer months.
  • Meet Authorized Driver and Background Check requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Winter

  • Design, build and maintain Terrain Park layout and terrain features.
  • Become familiar with natural terrain and snow depth indicators.
  • Push and resurface terrain features nightly as needed throughout season.
  • Work independently and proficiently
  • Demonstrate care for equipment, diagnose issues, and effectively communicate with Vehicle Maintenance when there is an issue.
  • Communicate effectively with Terrain Park Supervisor and Snow Surfaces Supervisor.
  • Work with Terrain Park Supervisor on any necessary changes and/or maintenance or terrain features.
  • Actively train and support the Terrain Park build, grooming and ranger team members.
  • Actively follow, and enforce, safety procedures and report unsafe acts to Grooming Supervisor, or Snow Surfaces Supervisor.

Pay $32/hour - $42.10/hour dependent on experience.
