Faculty Positions in Synthetic Biology Appointment Status Tenure Department IU Bloomington Vice Provost For Faculty Affairs Location Bloomington Position Summary
As part of a major, multi-year initiative to expand research activities in Synthetic Biology across the IU Bloomington campus, the College of Arts and Sciences and the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering invite applications for multiple tenure/tenure-track positions at the Associate or Full Professor rank to begin in the Fall of 2024. Appointments will be in one or more departments, including Chemistry, Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, or Intelligent System Engineering. These exciting new positions are associated with the university's multimillion-dollar investment in biosciences, expanding life sciences research on the Bloomington campus.
We are particularly interested in researchers working in the areas of Synthetic Biology, broadly defined. Topic areas could include genome design, genetic circuit design, metabolic engineering, synthetic immunology, cellular design and engineering, biosensing and diagnostics, and biocomputing as it pertains to enzymes, microbes, microbiomes and synthetic consortia, plants, or other biological systems. New approaches to design and engineering that incorporate evolution, selection methods, machine learning, artificial intelligence are also of interest. We encourage applications from scholars who apply interdisciplinary perspectives across a variety of these domains.
Responsibilities: Candidates are expected to sustain an active, internationally recognized, externally funded research program, to engage undergraduate and graduate students through effective teaching, and to participate in service to the university and the profession. Candidates should be able to work effectively in a team environment. To advance scholarly innovation and excellence, we especially welcome candidates who will broadly increase the university's diversity, equity, and inclusion through any of the following: their lived experience, research, teaching, and/or mentoring.
Basic Qualifications
Qualifications: Applicants should possess a PhD in Synthetic Biology, Informatics, Biological Engineering, Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or Chemical Biology (or a related field) and be committed to excellence in scholarship and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
