The Department of Education and Liberal Arts at Carlow University invites applications for an Instructor or tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position in Special Education. This is a nine-month, full-time academic appointment to begin in the Fall 2024. The primary instructional responsibilities of the candidate will be teaching Special Education courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, advising students, supervising student teachers and coordinating field placements – particularly in autism spectrum disorders, behavioral interventions, and communication/technology in Special Education. In addition, this individual will provide expertise in support of the strategic direction for Carlow’s Education programs which include collaboration with the Dyslexia Center, Apprenticeship Program, College in High School, and teacher diversification programs. The position will include participation in admissions and recruitment events and activities as well as other services to the department, college, and university.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Special Education with an emphasis in mild/moderate disabilities. Earned doctorate or terminal degree in Education preferred
- Minimum five years of full-time teaching experience in Special Education PreK-12th grade
- Experience in teaching and instructing students with autism spectrum disorders
- Preference for experience and qualifications in supervisory or administrative positions.
- Demonstrated experience in multi-sensory based instruction and intervention
- Demonstrated experience in conducting assessments in Special Education
- Interest in developing interdisciplinary courses and collaborating with other programs in the department
- Appropriate scholarship including readings, presentations, and/or panels
- Potential for securing external funding, engaging in innovative educational practices, and managing grant activities
- Demonstrated experience in online education
- Willingness to actively engage in entrepreneurial activities and partnerships within and beyond the profession.
- Ability to use instructional technologies (Content Management System/LMS; Microsoft Office applications) in support of student learning and professional collaboration.
