Assistant Professor, Choral Conducting (tenure-track)
Job Summary:
The Music Department faculty and staff work collaboratively and provide a welcoming community of students, staff, and faculty who are deeply committed to undergraduate intellectual growth, artistic development, and personal well-being. We value excellence in teaching and offer collegiality and support to one another, both as instructors and as people. We mentor students from a variety of cultural, socio-economic, and artistic backgrounds.
We seek a committed and passionate educator to direct the Muhlenberg College Choir and the Muhlenberg Chamber Choir and to teach introductory-level courses in Music History and Music Theory. This is a tenure-track appointment. There are opportunities to develop new courses and help shape our evolving curriculum. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to inclusive teaching of music majors and non-majors in a liberal arts environment, strong cultural and gender competencies, creativity in diverse pedagogies and programming, and a dedication to continued growth and development in areas that compliment those of our current faculty.
We seek a colleague with expertise in vocal pedagogy, a MM and/or DMA in Choral Conducting or extensive experience in the field, and the potential to bring new perspectives or courses to our program, particularly ones that will advance our Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, and Belonging (DEIB) goals. These goals are reflected in our new antiracist curriculum-a radical reimagining of how a Music curriculum can be structured and what it should accomplish-that seeks to equalize non-Western, vernacular, and Western art musics.
Responsibilities will include teaching three courses per semester: The College Choir, the Chamber Choir, and an introductory-level Music History or Music Theory course. Additional responsibilities will include planning concerts and other activities related to the function and development of choral ensembles, contributing to the department's implementation of our new curriculum, and assisting in departmental planning and recruiting.
If you are not sure you meet all of the qualifications, please apply. Research shows that potential candidates from under-represented groups do not apply when they believe they do not meet all of the criteria. We are committed to supporting an inclusive community.
Successful completion of satisfactory background checks is also required.
