Job Description:
The primary function of this position is to perform administrative and field work in recreation programming, planning, marketing, managing contracts, overseeing interns and volunteers, and coordinating all rentals and special events. Work involves maintaining a good working relationship with the general public, volunteers, contractors, Project Management, Facilities Maintenance, and others.
***Summer Camp Position 8:45 am until 5:15 pm Monday through Friday. This position will last approximately 8 to 10 weeks between June and August.***
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Available for Summer Camp, special events, and occasional nights and weekends.
  • Assist with the coordination of special events and recreation programs.
  • Assist in marketing recreation activities, events, and programs which include, but are not limited to: creating flyers, brochures, guides, programs, presentations, and social media marketing.
  • Supervises independent contractors and volunteers to ensure proper policies are being followed.
  • Supervises internship programs.
  • Supervises Temporary Recreational employees for camps, programs, etc.
  • Assist with the development of recreation programs to meet the needs of the community.
  • Teach and instruct recreation and fitness programs when needed
  • Attend community meetings when needed on behalf of the department
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Associate degree preferred plus 1 year minimum of prior related work experience or equivalent.
Special Qualifications:
Valid Florid Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to have procedures to follow for work but have a supervisor check work often.
  • Ability to have guidelines for work but determine the approach for doing the work.
  • Ability to perform specific clerical or manual tasks.
  • Ability to perform copying, maintaining files, or entering data OR utilizing light mechanical equipment such as a vehicle, lawn mower, or hand tool OR clean and maintain a facility.
  • Ability to perform routine or clearly defined activities under close supervision.
  • Ability to follow specific procedures that may result in interaction with co-workers, citizens, or other individuals.
  • Ability to make decisions regarding own activities and priorities.
  • Ability to work primarily alone.
  • Ability to work with less than ten co-workers who are mostly engaged in the same activities as me.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
  • Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
  • Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
  • Manual Dexterity: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force to draw, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force to thrust forward, downward, or outward.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Speaking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Visual Acuity: Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work deals with crisis situations that require an employee to make major decisions involving people, resources, and property.
